Blue Cave (Bisevo island)

Blue Cave Tour from Split & Trogir: Bisevo Island. The reason we're here and the main highlight of the entire tour is the Blue cave, which is located on the southeastern side of the island. Upon arrival, our hostess will head to the sales office and buy your tickets required to enter the cave. There is no additional cost for you as the ticket price is included in the total price of the tour. We are not allowed to enter the Blue Cave with our speedboat; instead, Blue Cave staff will take you on a 15 min ride with small wooden boats. Then you will witness the beauty that amazing glowing blue light creates inside the cave. You will arrive just at the right time when sunlight reflects through the sea bottom and bathes the entire cave in aquamarine light. You can take breathtaking pictures inside the cave but without a flashlight so we advise you to set your cameras before we enter the cave.

Biševo Island is 71 kilometers or 44 nautical miles away from Split. It is composed of limestone and it has many caves carved in it by the sea, Blue Cave being the most famous one. It was once known only for local fisherman as it only had one entrance under the sea level and it was only accessible by diving. The natural light entrance of the cave allows sunbeams to reflect from the white bottom floor and color the cave in glowing blue colors and the objects on the bottom in shiny silver. The first written mentions of the Blue Cave dates back to 1884 when local fishermen showed it to the Austrian artist, explorer and speleologist, Eugen von Ransonnet-Villez. Based on his suggestion, an artificial entrance to the cave was made that was big enough to fit small boats; it is 1.5 meters high and 2.5 meters wide and the size doesn’t affect the lightning in the cave. The cave is 24 meters long, 10 to 12 meters deep, 15 meters high and receives more than 10,000 visitors every year as it represents one of the best natural beauty locations in the entire Adriatic Sea.
