Drain Choke – How To Clear It

A drain choke is among the most familiar plumbing problems that a homeowner may face. The function of the drain is to carry waste water from the sink, shower or bathtub of your house. While water can easily get through the pipe, other stuffs may get into the pipe as well. Everything from food waste, hair and grease to foreign items that fell into the drain unintentionally can upshot in a drain choke. Before calling a chokage specialist in Singapore you can try the following steps to clear a drain choke by yourself.

Physically remove the clog:

This is best done when the clog is comprised of solid substance such as food waste, a clump of hair or a foreign object. You should try to plunge the drain with a plunger a few times to remove the clog. You can also try to snake the drain. You can buy a snake device from your nearby hardware store that sells plumbing equipment & parts. The snake device will slide down into the faucet & through the pipe to remove the obstruction. Some snake devices are designed to physically latch onto or grab the clog so that you can pull it upward. If a snake device isn’t available, you can remove the log by just pulling a wire clothes hanger apart & working it into a straight line. If the clog is placed close to the drain, you can latch onto the clog with the end of the straightened clothes hanger.

Melt or dissolve the clog:

Another option available to abolish a drain choke in your plumbing fixture is to melt or dissolve the clog. The best way to do this is by taking a pot of boiling water & running it into the drain. This is especially effective at a taking away a clog that’s comprised of grease. The hot water will melt the grease to loosen the clog. Another option you can try is to run white vinegar into the drain. This is an acidic substance that may work to smoothly break down the clog stuck in your plumbing fixture. Remember that using vinegar or hot water may completely remove the clog or it may loosen the clog enough so that other efforts like plunging are more effective. Henceforth, after trying to use vinegar or hot water, try to plunge the drain once more.

If you find that these efforts to remove the clog on your own are ineffective, it is wise to hire a chokage specialist in Singapore from Plumbing Hub.
