Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Preparations and Information

Prime Healthcare would like to assure our communities that we are prepared for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). The health and safety of our patients, employees and communities is always our top priority. We are grateful to our physicians, nurses and staff members for their dedication to quality patient care. Prime Healthcare’s hospitals are closely monitoring and implementing Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance, while remaining in close contact with state and local health departments.

The Novel Coronavirus, which causes a respiratory disease known as COVID-19, has infected some people in the United States and is being monitored by the CDC (learn more on the CDC website). At this time, most people in the United States have little immediate risk of exposure to this virus as it is not currently spreading widely in the United States. However, this is a rapidly evolving situation and the CDC’s risk assessment may change.

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe respiratory illness. Patients with this new Novel Coronavirus, have had mild to severe illness with fever, cough and shortness of breath, according to the CDC. While there is no specific treatment for Coronavirus, most infected people will recover on their own.

What you can do to stay healthy:

The best way to prevent illness is to follow the advice given to help prevent spreading the flu:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Alcohol hand sanitizers are also effective.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick (except to get medical care). Keep sick children home from school.
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow. If you use a tissue, wash your hands afterward.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

If you or a family member has traveled recently to an area of risk, or if you think you may have been exposed to the virus and have symptoms of respiratory illness, please call your physician or your local health department. Calling ahead will allow your health care providers to direct you to the most appropriate care and take precautions to protect others. Facemasks are recommended for use by individuals who are showing symptoms to protect others from getting infected.

Prime Healthcare clinics and hospitals have put the recommended precautions in place and we are ready to safely treat all patients. We encourage our communities to seek medical care when it is needed. Thank you for trusting Prime Healthcare with your family’s health. We are honored to care for you.
