Chitwan National Park, Nepal

Chitwan National Park is among the very first national parks of Nepal, a World Heritage Site, Chitwan and is a part of the ‘travel triangle’ within Nepal. The national park is home to the endangered species of Royal Bengal Tigers and one horn Rhinos which have recently seen a rise in their population. Several other mammal and avian species also call Chitwan National Park their home and it is a biodiversity hotspot. Amidst the several national parks of Nepal, Chitwan is considered to have a variety of fauna with Sal trees covering a significant portion of the park. Elephant grass, the tallest grass in the world, along with other species of grasses as well as Rosewood Trees are found in the forests of Chitwan.

The stunning landscape of the Chitwan National Park with its lush green forests surrounded by towering hills and the constantly flowing river Rapti, makes it a surreal nature escape. The Rapti river flows between the forest and the Chitwan Tharu village which is also a great spot for wildlife enthusiasts to get a glimpse of wild animals either bathing, drinking or just lazing around. The Canoe safari on the Rapti river is a slow travel experience of the jungle and ideal to spot the famed crocodiles of Chitwan resting on the banks. Ofcourse, there is the Jeep Safari which takes you on adventurous game drives through the Jungle, in an open-top jeep offering a closer experience to nature, a heaven for birders. Chitwan National Park is surely blessed with one of the best wildlife experiences Nepal has to offer.

Birds that you can easily sight in Chitwan are parakeets, bulbuls, egrets, jungle fowl, kingfishers, mynahs, peacocks, orioles and several species of drongos.
