If you are thinking about building your own bass guitar or acoustic guitar, you should be well versed with the issues that you could encounter after using it for some time. There are easy-to-assemble “build a guitar kits” available on the market that make this DIY job relatively easy. If you aren’t an expert at building guitars, you could come across several issues down the line that won’t have much knowledge about. So, in addition to learning the skill of building your own guitar, you also need to learn how you can you figure out problems and their solutions in your diy guitar kits.

Is your guitar out of tune with itself?

If you are noticing too much problem at the first fret with it becoming less noticeable as you go towards frets that are not close to the nut, then the entire problem has got to do with the nut. Most guitars don’t experience this problem. It is often the other way round. There is a little problem when you are playing in the open chords, but as you start moving away to the other end, it starts feeling like that the guitar is not in tune. If this is the problem with your newly built guitar, you should check the new strings. While you can easily replace the old strings if this problem happens with an old guitar or a guitar that has old strings, a new guitar with new strings shouldn’t experience this issue. But, if it does, you should check the action and make neck adjustments.

Even if you used the best "build your own guitar kit" and set it up correctly, there are still chances that it won’t play in tune on all the frets. If you look at the design and working of guitars and other similar instruments, you will come to know how difficult it is to build a fixed-pitch instrument using strings made from different materials and of different thickness to play perfectly in pitch. Lots of steps have been taken to overcome this problem, but none of them really help. You will have to compromise that little bit when it comes to your guitar being perfectly in tune.

Does your guitar go out of tune often?

This is again a prevalent issue that you might face with your self-built guitar. Blaming the tuners isn’t the right thing to do. You can spend all the money you want to find the right tuners, but you need to understand that the problem might not be with the tuner. Check if the string is correctly attached to the tuner. You don’t need too many winds to keep strings secure. So, more winds that you need can often result in turning problems.

Building your unfinished guitar kits can be a tough job if you haven’t done it before. What could be tougher is knowing what tuning problems exist in your guitar after you are done building it. This is why it is imperative to not only learning the right way of building a guitar but also keeping it in tune.
