Should You Buy 4K Monitors for General Computer Use?
These days, the term “4K” is so hyped among people that everyone wants to own it no matter whether they need it. 4K monitors and TVs are far more expensive than the regular Full-HD screens, possibly twice as expensive. Nowadays, most people are discarding their HD or Full HD monitors and investing in 4K resolution screens.

Most users have the wrong perception that 4K monitors are essential for using their desktop PCs. Is that really true?

In this article, we are about to talk on just that, and we request you to go through this quick guide to get a trustworthy outcome.
Let’s get in!

4K Monitor: What Does it Provide?

4K refers to a next level screen resolution that is far more detailed and improved than regular HD resolution. Whereas the term Full HD is used to refer 1920 x 1080 pixels, Ultra HD is used to refer 3840 x 2160 pixels. So when you calculate the difference in them, you get to know that Ultra HD is literally twice bigger than the Full HD resolution.

Surprisingly, 4K or ultra HD resolution has four times pixels at 3840 x 2160, which means it is 4 times more than the screen real estate. This means 4K resolution will provide more space for your computer applications than any other lower resolutions. You will be able to see more windows, apps, tabs, or other items at the same time on your monitor. Though it doesn’t mean that you will get excellent image quality on 4K monitors because the display scaling would mess that up.

The sizes of 4K monitors generally range around 24 inches to 32 inches. Although every 4K monitor would pack the same amount of pixels on your screen, however, the density of pixels could vary, which is measured in Dots per inch or DPI.
Lower DPI 4K monitors would provide a bit low picture quality, whereas high DPI monitors can offer excellent picture quality even if you adjust display scaling to create more space or display room.

A 4K monitor with 24-inch screen size is visibly varied from a 32-inch 4K monitor. This means the screen size in 4K monitors can significantly affect the picture quality. A large 4K monitor has less pixel density but possesses a more usable room. On the other hand, when a monitor has higher pixel density, the screen quality becomes much clearer and sharp. You can see the pixels scattered on the screen in a 4K monitor with lower pixel density, which is very disappointing.

However, you can optimize your large monitor’s lower pixels density by adjusting the Display scaling on your computer, especially on a Windows system. All you need to do is follow the instructions mentioned down here:
  1. Go to Settings and then click on System.
  2. Then head to Display.
  3. There is a section named “Scale and Layout” that will allow you to increase the size of text, apps, and other items.
By increasing it, you will be able to see clear text, apps, and user interface even on a lower pixel density monitor. Always choose a better DPI 4K monitor if you want to edit movies and use Photoshop-like software.
However, if you are going to use your 4K monitor just for average computer use such as internet surfing, Office work, then you don’t necessarily need a high DPI monitor.

Are 4K Monitors Worth for General Computer Use?

Know what are your interests and requirements before buying one. Ask yourself, does my job demand better picture quality? Do I regularly use designing software such as Photoshop or Illustrator? Do I use applications that have numerous controls and sophisticated interfaces such as video editing software that have hundreds of controls?

If your answer is yes, then you seriously need a 4K monitor to boost your computer’s picture quality. On higher resolution, using video editing and graphic designing software appears much better, and you will get sufficient room for higher pixel images.

However, if you only access the internet and use regular applications, then investing in 4K monitors isn’t worth it. Yes, you might get more space, but that is not required for normal users. You will get immense video quality on 4k if you watch high-quality videos, movies, and TV shows on your computer.  If you are a movie enthusiast, go for a high-quality 4K monitor and pick a large screen size if your budget allows.
