Microsoft has recently introduced a new feature to its group video chat app, Teams. The new friends and family features have been launched with the intention to convert the app into a personal communication app. Till now, Teams has been widely in use among the businesses, enterprises and individuals for professional communication. It seems the company is all set to change the current status of Teams and that too at the time when people are finding themselves relying on communication apps to remain in touch with each other.
The start of disease outbreak forced people to look for digital ways to stay in touch with their distant family members, friends and other people. Also, the lockdown situation has caused almost a huge population all across the globe to work from home. Work from home and stay at home situations have compelled everyone to rely on video chat apps for calling remote meetings and discussing other professions issues. This increased the demand for video conferencing apps massively encouraging several companies to launch video chat apps and introduce new features to them. Several video conferencing apps like Zoom, Slack, Teams and Skype.
Zoom attracted a large number of people and remained in the news for both negative and positive aspects. While it gained users in huge numbers from everywhere, Zoom also faced severe criticism for the flaws associated with online security. On the contrary, some other professional tools like Slack and Teams gained appreciation from users for being more safe and secure. These two video calling apps are particularly focused on fulfilling professional communication needs. The rolling out of personal communication features to the Teams are showing that Microsoft wants to extend its app features. The new features are available for the Teams users of iOS and Android devices. It is just like all other apps of Microsoft Office 365, which can be downloaded from Google Play Store and App Store for free. The users who are active on their mobile app of Teams at work can go to the Settings and create another account to Sign-in. The users can Sign-in by using their user account on Microsoft. Besides, users can use their mobile numbers to create a personal user account. Moreover, once the users can shift between their professional and personal Teams account conveniently. Also, you can start inviting family or family to join the chat along with creating chat groups.
The users can interact or communicate with their friends, family and other fellow members; similarly, they collaborate through group video chats, file sharing and video calls and message threads. Also, the users can integrate with other Office apps of Microsoft like Excel, Word or PowerPoint. Apart from these, the users can share their current location status to let their family and friends know where and when they will arrive. Additionally, the newly introduced features allow the users to store their password of Wi-Fi along with other personal information through its Digital Safe feature.
The introduction of the new features is the latest that Microsoft has introduced. The company is continuously adding new features to Teams to improve the users’ experience. It has recently introduced custom backgrounds to give competition to Zoom. However, despite these several new improvements and changes, Zoom has been the most preferred video chat app among the users for personal communication. But, the rolling out of the new features have made Microsoft superior to Teams in functionality regarding a platform for personal communication.
