Have you ever wondered how your hearing is going to be affected when you are exposed to loud volume? IOS 14 has a feature that indicates the audio level of headphones. The latest phones and headphones are hence being designed accordingly. They have a safety range tracker that gets enabled automatically when you connect the device to a headphone or earphone. New iOS 14 has a long-awaited sleep tracker along with the audio level checker. Let’s find out how to set up the feature on your phones.

Safe Audible range

Firstly, one needs to know what is the safe audible range and what is not. 85 decibels is defined as the most reliable hearing range if being exposed for 8 hours, while 100 decibels is also safe if exposed for only 15 minutes a day.

If your ears are exposed to harmful frequency for an extended period, different hearing problems may arise, and one can even lose hearing permanently. If you find that you often listen to stuff that is above 80 decibels, you should immediately consider changing it.

Preferable headphones

When connected to iOS 14 devices, almost all headphones are compatible with the safe audio range feature, which means you can use any headphones and you will be able to use the safety audible range feature.

While it is said that the best result will only be provided to those who are using the Apple certified headsets or Airpods. So try using the original Apple products for the best results.

Set up the audio level checker

Now, how one can set the feature is a concern. These steps will help you through it:

  • Open Settings on your iPhones or iPads. You can see many options (Notification, Sounds, Do Not Disturb, Screen Time, etcetera); click on Control Center.
  • When clicked on it, another page will be opened, that will give you options like Apple TV Remote, Dark Mode, Feedback Assistant, Guided Access, and all; you have to click on the + (plus) sign in front of the option of Hearing.
  • And the feature has been enabled successfully. Now, you can freely enjoy your music.

Keep a track

After enabling the hearing option, the new icon of an ear (illustration) will be added to the screen. When you are not using any headphones, that icon would remain neutral ( white/grey) color.

If one is using headphones, the symbol will turn green, and it means that the sound is below 80 decibels. Then it is safe to keep using it. But if it shows a yellow color exclamation, that means it exceeds the safe level. Then it is recommended to re-check the audible level and lower the volume

By following these steps you can easily enable the headset audio level feature. I hope this article was helpful and now you can enjoy your music tension-free.
