Amongst the gloomy conditions, which we have witnessed right from the beginning of the decade, a deadly pandemic, we are forced to sustain and keep ourselves safe with no sign of a cure in the proximity. It is natural to lose hope and positivity in these uncertain times, but as they say, it all depends upon us and the way we perceive things, which makes the difference. Failing or succeeding depends upon whether or not the person is able to see the silver lining of a dark cloud.

Everyone across the globe has got affected in some way or another. The pandemic has not spared a single industry. However, it is true that some get affected more and some less. The pandemic has forced people to stay locked up in their houses for almost 3-4 months now, leaving physical retail store owners crippled, especially the ones who run small-scale businesses. But as we have said before, making or breaking depends upon the ability to see the silver lining. As the relaxations in various cities and countries are taking its place, we have mentioned the top 5 reasons why you should stay optimistic about the future of the retail industry post-COVID 19.

Mom and pop shops under the spotlight-

One of the most common reactions or feedback that people on social media and other platforms have received is how people are getting nostalgic about the mundane life they used to live. Buying groceries, milk, and vegetables or going to that small shop downtown to buy peppermint has now become memories for people they want to cherish again. But other than the wave of nostalgia, people have also started to realize the importance of supporting small businesses and the importance of buying from mom and pop stores.

Unlocking creativity amongst crisis-

While a lot of people might sulk over video calling and work from the home regime. It is almost impossible to ignore the advantages which are bundled with it. As employees are getting more “me” time and less burden of office chores, they can put their creativity to use. Corporations are moving fast amongst the crisis, and nothing is stopping them from unleashing innovations and creativity, which can benefit them at such time. Retail shop owners can make their own creative and designer masks, scented sanitizers, to use these adverse times into favor.

Gratitude towards work-

Covid-19 is definitely a bad experience for millions of people as around 1 million people have lost their employment, and the economy has seen a drastic upward trajectory in the unemployment rate across the globe. The fear of unemployment, financial crisis, and foggy future will leave many with jobs grateful for being able to back to work. As the lockdown has led to unprecedented losses to many industries, it has forced the corporations to fire its employees. The ones who are still getting an opportunity to work have started to respect and value their jobs, which in turn is increasing the productivity and efficiency within the company.

World of social media takes over-

Before the boulder of pandemic fell on the retailers, they had a laid-back attitude towards social media. But now as their businesses are getting sloppier day after day, they are turning towards technology for help. Social media is kind to everyone who really works hard and tries to make its presence over the internet. Social media users are on the rise every day. The retailers use features like going live on Instagram or marketing on Facebook which, when done properly, guarantees a wider and greater audience reach. Its time to realize that the future of retail significantly lies in the hands of social media as well; therefore, as soon as the retailers embrace it, the better results they can gain.

The economic stimulus-

Retailers have realized that there is no coming back from the damage wreaked by Covid-19 as it has forced them to close their doors entirely. However, the retailers are still keeping their hopes high. This is because although governments halted transportation, the supply chain within the countries faced no hiccups. Further, the governments of various countries were working with a rock-solid determination that the retailers must not face any fallouts during these tough times. Various packages for economic stimulation, the transaction of low-cost loans, rolling out of special budget for businesses and retailers, and extending tax deductions on account of losses have come as an aid for retailers.

Final thoughts

None of the above-mentioned points was to deny the fact that 2020 is going to be a tough year for all of us. It is only to mention that retailers can believe that they are not going to be a casualty of Covid-19 in the near future. All it is required for them to survive is hope and positivity that they can fight the situation and yield opportunities from it. But not to forget the lessons Covid-19 has taught us of companionship and deep-rooted optimism, which starts from within us.
