For the upcoming season of The Witcher, the return of actors Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan for the roles of Geralt, Yennefer, and Princess Ciri respectively was never a question in anybody’s minds. But the one thing that nobody was sure of was the fate of their darling Jaskier in the show. But luckily, as the season one moved towards a wrap-up, the confirmation of Jaskier’s presence in the next season was made. The fans were elated to discover that Joey Batey will revisit the screen as Jaskier in season two. But remembering the fact that the bard’s process of aging is slightly different than that of the witches or magicians on the show, his appearance may be distinct.

A bunch of new faces was also cast and announced for the second season of the famous show, like Kristofer Hivju (famous for his role of Tormund Giantsbane on HBO’s Game of Thrones) as Nivellen, along with actors Thue Ersted Rasmussen, Yasen Atour, and Paul Bullion.  Kim Bodnia, the Danish actor popular for his role of Martin Rohde, will be seen playing Vesemir, a paternal figure for Geralt. The role of Bodnia also suggests that the new season will shed more light on Geralt’s history and witcher lore. The sources also confirm that the famous character of Jaskier will be recreated on the screen by Batey.

The Witcher video game affectionately refers to Jaskier as “Dandelion,” and the character made his debut with the second episode of the season. Jaskier made acquaintance with Geralt by happenstance and soon discovered that the man was a witcher. Jaskier escorted him on his quest to slay a monster. Later, Jaskier also proposed to polish the man’s image by creating folk songs of his conquests and remove his tag of “Butcher of Blaviken.” The show depicts a unique relationship between the two, where they consistently meet each other at random locations and save each other from dying at innumerable times.

The song “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” and Batey’s performance was an instant hit, and people were amazed at the sheer brilliance of it. One thing that is of particular interest for all fans is Jaskier’s age. The season one’s timeline was very wonky and confusing. Still, one thing can be stated with certainty that there is a gap of around twenty years between the second episode and the final episode of the pilot season. And since Jaskier is just a mortal unlike all other characters, he will sport a much older look. The show’s executive producer Lauren S. Hissrich admitted in an interview that the team messed up the execution of Jaskier’s age in his looks. But she was clear that the mistake will be rectified well in the next season.

Since the interview, fans have been advising options like CGI or detailed makeup for a more realistic look. But no matter how the team executes it, the fans are delighted that season two will not forget Jaskier behind.
