Use Your Phone Camera to Translate Text on Google Translate

These days, the Google Translate app is getting insane upgrades and improvements. Translating with your smartphone’s camera is one of its latest features. If you want to translate a foreign language text to yours, you don’t have to type it manually to Google Translate dialogue box. Rather, you can use the phone’s camera to quickly capture a text and then translate it via Google Translate. All thanks to modern artificial intelligence that has made it possible to convert text from images.

Google Translate can translate to over 100 languages when using the standard method by typing the text manually. However, the image text translation feature is currently available in 29 languages.

Here’s how to translate using your phone’s camera:

  1. First and foremost, download and install the latest version of Google Translate from Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Once you have installed the application on your device, open it.
  3. On top of the app, there is a blue strip from where you can choose a language. So pick a language as per your wish.
  4. Press on the camera button from the left side options.
  5. Now capture the text that you wish to translate to your language.

You can use this feature without the internet when offline, however in the offline mode, you will not be able to translate most languages. This is because the offline translation is currently limited to 29 languages, and you might miss the language you need to translate while offline.

The languages that you wish to download with this app should be downloaded in the app in advance. It will not only allow you to translate offline but also increases the overall translation speed.

  • All you need to do is capture a shot of the text that you need to translate with this app.
  • Then you will be able to choose the text from the captured image to translate. You can tap and select the text with your fingers.
  • In case you wish to translate everything the picture contains, just hit the Select All button.
  • Now the app will translate all of the content in your language.
  • You can share it to others with an email or the WhatsApp messaging application in a single click.

Keep in mind that you have to capture the image with optimal clarity in order to translate it accurately.  If the captured text is too small and unclear, the translation might not be much reasonable.
