Having proper circulation in your marijuana grow tent is essential to preventing mold and powdery mildew from growing on your cannabis. I’m going to lay out everything you need to know about selecting a fan for your grow tent, and getting it set up properly.

I’ll help you determine the proper size fan for your grow tent, where to place the fan in your grow tent, how to set up your grow tent fan, and the other accessories you’ll need.

If you want to buy equipment, you first want to buy a full spectrum LED grow light, However, A grow room ventilation is a system that ensures a continuous flow of air between the outside world and the indoor grow area is essential also. It also includes some mechanism for keeping airflow inside the grow room.

Selecting the proper grow tent fan size:

The first question you’re probably asking is “What’s the proper grow tent fan size?” When you’re replacing air in a grow space, the general rule of thumb is being able to replace all of the air once per minute.

Then you need to make a few additional considerations, such as 25% fan power reduction if you add a carbon filter, and 30% power reduction for each 90 degree bend in your ducting.

What size fan is needed for other grow tent sizes?

I won’t write out all the math, but I’ll use the same method I used for the 4x4 grow tent above – one carbon filter and one 90 degree duct bend. I arrived at these estimations:

2x4x6.67 foot grow tent: 100cfm

3x3x6.67 foot grow tent: 125cfm

5x5x6.67 foot grow tent: 325cfm

8x4x6.67 foot grow tent: 400 cfm

10x5x6.67 foot grow tent: 640cfm

Installing an Inline Duct Fan In a Grow Tent

Actually, you don’t need to be a pro to install the inline duct fan in a grow tent correctly. You only need to understand a few basics.

The most crucial primary point is that the ducts should have as few bents as possible to make the flow of air efficient.

Here are some pointers to guide on how to install your best inline duct fan for grow tent.

Mount Your Inline Fan on the Tent Ceiling Bars

Once your tent is in place, the next thing you should do is has hung the Inline Duct Fan. Typically, attaching the fan to grow tent ceiling bars most recommended.

Therefore, use the adjustable clips to hang the fan and have it dangling a few inches from the grow tent’s ceiling. This will help you to get enough space on the ground and also get rid of the hot air around the upper part of the tent.

Hang the Carbon Filter

Setting up a grow tent’s ventilation happens to be the most challenging part when it comes to setting up a grow tent. Otherwise, this shouldn’t be the case.

When it comes to fitting the carbon filter, there are several ways in which you can do it. You can decide to have it inside or outside the tent. Also, you can hang it or have it place on the floor.

The most recommended connection is hanging the filter inside the tent.

Therefore, after hanging the fan with the tapered end facing the exhaust hole, use the remaining straps to hang the carbon filter. Make sure that the flange end of the filter faces the inline fan. Secure one end of the ducting to the fan flange with a clamp, and fit the other to the carbon filter.

For filters that are placed on the floor, you will need to follow a different setting.

Connect the fan to the ducting

Hanging your inline fan may not be of great use if you fail to connect it to the ducting system. Therefore, you need to connect the ducting such that it allows the free flow of exhaust gases.

The piping should have as minimal bends as possible. Also, make sure that the duct is not too long as the length will also affect the efficiency of the fan.

All the same, you need to take caution so that the ducting doesn’t send light into a grow tent that is supposed to be light proof. If you don’t need light in your grow tent, then you should consider creating a u-bend to take care of that.

Finally, let the ducting run out through the exhaust hole. Also, make sure you seal off the tent where the ducting exits your structure. If left unattended, this point can be the entry point for destructive pests and other animals.

Connect the Power Cords

After all your installations are in place, the last but equally important part is about power connection. When connecting your inline duct fan to electricity, safety should always come fast.

First, you should confirm that you have connected all components in their correct order.

When it comes to electrical connections, it is highly advisable to have a qualified electrician do the installation. Definitely, an expert understands the safety measures to put in place.

For example, you should always connect an inline duct fan to an AC 110/120 volt, 60Hz power supply using a fuse or a circuit breaker. The fuse or circuit breaker should have a rating of not more than15 amperes.

Run the cables tucked away from constant human activity. This minimises the chances of accidents resulting from power cables lying on the floor.

Conclusion

There is nothing as fulfilling as having that small garden you have always desired. With grow tents, you can grow crops indoors with a lot of ease.

The only issue with grow tents is that they have poor air circulation. Therefore, you need to install an inline duct fan to get rid of exhaust gases and odours.

Installing an inline fan shouldn’t be rocket science. Actually, most of the components are easy to install, and you can install the fan by following the user manual and instructions from the manufacturer.

In case you aren’t the tech kind of a person, then you should hire an expert to install the fan for you. What's more, if you are a beginner, you can consider marijuana grow tent kit.
