Few Tips to Identify the BMW Engine:

Usually, all the vehicle makers (even BMW) will provide a place in the engine where its specification is addressed. Via looking into the specification we will come to know about the BMW engine model. The engine code is alpha numeric which means the code contains both the alphabets and the numbers in the code series. Irrespective of engine type - either new engines or used BMW engines have the engine code for verification. For instance, let us take an example to clearly know about the BMW engine code.

The engine code displays alpha numeric code like 39 4 E 1 01 A.

  • Here the number "39" represents the displacement. The engine's displacement gives information about the cylinder volume, the engine's power and the amount of fuel that engine could consume.
  • Secondly, "4" represents the number of cylinders’ used in the BMW engine.
  • "E" indicates the engine's concept. Usually the BMW engines have few concepts. "D" indicates Diesel, "E" stands for fuel injection, "K" says that the BMW engine is a catalytic converter concept, "S" represents four-valve technology, "T" indicates turbo and finally "V" says carburetor. Therefore in the place of "E" concept the BMW engine can have any of these letters to represent the concept accordingly.
  • The number "1" says the differentiation concept in the BMW engine.
The number "01" represents the variant.
And finally "A" represents that the find used engine is the remanufactured engine. In the place of "A" if the engine has the letter "N" then it means the engine is the new one.
