The backside of the FrSky X9D Special Edition is exactly like the back of the standard variant

In the last article, we discussed how frsky x9d became the de facto choice of RC for some time, until it was replaced or upgraded by the version of frsky x9d plus. Well, frsky has managed to upgrade the model again to offer users with the special edition of frsky x9d with a few upgrades and a really cool looking carbon fiber body! Let's get started and see what the new radio from forsky can bring us and whether it's worth so much money.

First impressions

The out of the box experience is similar to the frsky Taranis x9d plus version. You can get the following in the package:

Taranis x9d+

Charger

Rope (collar)

Battery (pre installed)

Carrying condition

1GB SD card (pre installed)

Like x9d plus, its content is basically the same. You will get a perfect chassis, which can perfectly carry your transmitter and its accessories without fear, because it is a rigid chassis with good foam and protection of your equipment.

Build quality

Frsky x9d special edition has the same build quality as its predecessor, but with a slightly upgraded switch, pot and feel.

It also has a nice looking carbon fiber body, I believe everyone will like it, because let's face it, CF is always very cool;)

Gimbals on the x9d plus se is the upgraded M9 Hall effect gimbals, which will give you a super smooth feel and precise control, because it is more accurate than the traditional gimbals based on potentiometer, which you find in the standard version of x9d. This is the second most noticeable upgrade you'll find in the special edition over the standard edition.

To switches, they are decent quality and switches are good tactile with good 'click ness'. They are considered to be of better quality than the standard x9d, but it is hardly obvious.

characteristic

Compared with its brother x9d, x9d plus se has some additional features. It has a built-in vibrating motor for tactile feedback, which is useful in crowded or noisy environments where you can't hear audio feedback from the built-in speakers.

Another notable update is that the monitor is now equipped with a two-color screen. You can choose white or blue backlight for your monitor to give you a certain degree of customization, let's face it, it's cool;)

Tactile vibration feedback system

Detachable 5dBi antenna (RP-SMA connector)

Double back color (blue, white)

16 channels, built-in xjt module, using accst firmware

64 mixers, 9 flight modes

16 custom curves, 3-17 points each, 32 logic switches

Model 60 memory, expandable with SD card (equipped with 1GB SD card)

Speech audio output

USB and SD card slots, unlimited memory, and firmware upgrades, sound editing.

Traditional Jr style module bay external RF module

The back of the special edition of frsky x9d is just like the back of the standard version. It has a mini USB port and two 3.5mm sockets on the side - one for audio output when connecting headphones or speakers, and the other for buddy boxing, also known as trainer Jack.

At the bottom, you can find the battery compartment with TX NiMH batteries, and at the top, you can find Jr module cabins for external RF modules, such as the frsky R9m or the miniature or full-size modules of the black sheep cross fire team. Jr module pins are also used to flash or upgrade your receiver to the latest firmware.

Ergonomics

When it comes to ergonomics or the feel of the radio, it's exactly the same as its predecessor. It's huge and has the shape of a traditional radio. I personally don't like this design, but obviously a lot of people like it because it's good for both the hand pincher and the thumb holder, and it provides good grip and a solid feel in the hand. For racing drivers, it may not be the point they want, but for free flow or fixed wing pilots, it will be a great radio.

We've seen a quick review of the frsky x9d special edition and its features, and how ti competes with its younger siblings and siblings. If you already have a frsky x9d +, you may not want to upgrade to this one, but instead trade your stock balance ring to use Hall's, or even change your radio shell, which is carbon fiber, as we discussed in the previous article about changing the radio frsky shell.

Whatever your decision, frsky x9d special edition is a solid radio for all reinforced concrete enthusiasts.
