UPSC Prelims Preparation | IAS Exam Preparation

Union Public Service Commission conducts exams every year and updates the exam dates a year before they conduct. Candidates need some time for preparing for UPSC exams. Subjects differ in the UPSC exam but the exam will be conducted in three phases for all the exams in UPSC. IAS exam, IFS exam, IRS, ect., are conducted at different times by UPSC. Candidates need to check the admit card update and be ready to at any time. 

But before all these, a beginner should know what is happening in the IAS preliminary examination. The syllabus and the pattern should be well known for an IAS candidate to schedule and start the preparation.

 

UPSC: IAS Exam- Prelims (Phase 1) - Paper I (General Studies), Paper-II (Civil Service Aptitude Test)

 

A candidate should clear both papers I and paper II of the prelims exam to reach the Main exam. However, paper II in prelims is not considered in the Total marks of IAS prelims, it is mandatory to clear the paper II exam in prelims. 

 

General Studies (IAS Prelims)

General Studies consists of 200 marks and 100 questions. Each writes answer carries 2 marks, and for each wrong answer, negative marks of 0.66 marks are deducted. 

General studies are intended to test the general awareness of the UPSC candidates. 

Subjects in Paper I are History, Geography, Indian Polity, Indian Economics, Science and Technology, International Relations, Environment, and Ecology, etc.

Civil Service Aptitude Test 

Decision Making, Reasoning & Analytics, Reading Comprehensions

 

Interpersonal Skills, Logical reasoning and analytical skill, Mental ability, Graphs, tables, chart of Class X book. 

The CSAT is just 9 years old in the civil service exam, after a protest the marks in CSAT are not considered in the total marks of the IAS exam. But, it is mandatory to clear the exam to move on to the next stage (Mains). 

CSAT contains 80 questions with 2.5 marks each, and one wrong answer will decline 0.833 marks.
