What if you are getting redirected to Edge even if you are using Internet Explorer? Don’t worry; we have a hack. Suppose you usually make use of Internet Explorer for visiting sites that are not compatible with the browser. In that case, indeed, you will get redirected to Microsoft’s new chromium-based browser – Edge.

And after that, you will be shown some prompts along with the one-time dialog so that you can copy your data from Internet Explorer to the browser on which you have been redirected.

Microsoft Edge is undoubtedly more designed to take over Internet Explorer from the very beginning. Whenever the users visit a site that is not compatible with the Internet Explorer, they will get redirected to the Edge, where their further browsing session will progress.

The reports have suggested that there are 1,156 incompatible sites, and this number is growing further. Some of the significant sites included in this list are Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Mail, Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, Instagram, and more.

When you get redirected to the Edge browser, a one-time dialog box will appear on your screen alongside some prompts with the help of which you can copy your browsing information and other preferences to the browser on which you are redirected.

Microsoft states that the data related to the search engines, passwords, favorites, history, cookies, the home page, settings, and open tabs will get imported.

How to Stop Getting Redirected from Internet Explorer to Edge?

To disable the redirection of Internet Explorer to Edge soon after you have updated to version 87 of Microsoft Edge Stable, follow the below-mentioned steps:

  1. You need to disable the “Redirect Sites From Internet Explorer Redirect Mode” policy. This will restrict the redirection of IE to Edge immediately after the policy comes into action. If you haven’t updated to Microsoft Edge Stable version 87 and you want to disable the redirection of Internet Explorer to Edge before, then set the policy mentioned above to the Enabled mode.
  2. Then, you need to enable the “Redirect Sites From Internet Explorer Prevent BHO Install” policy. This will help uninstall the BHO as soon as the next update of Edge comes.

The redirection of Internet Explorer to Edge needs a Browser Helper Object of Internet Explorer. It is also known as IE to Edge BHO or simply BHO itself.

To check whether the BHO is properly installed or not, the “Redirect Sites From Internet Explorer Prevent BHO Install” policy is needed.

Conclusion

So, this was all about how you can restrict the redirection of Internet Explorer to Edge. Once you have enabled the settings, you need to wait for some time and then check if the policies are working for you or not.
