The war between technology and products is always in debate. The debate to choose the right product depends on various parameters. These parameters and their trade-off narrow down the selection. Apple Inc. that sits at the pinnacle of electronic product development came up with the iPad and iPad Air. The comparison of iPad and iPad Air will clear out the mind to select the right product.

Oozing the OS

Both the iPad and iPad Air run on a different OS. While the iPad pairs with iPadOS (or iPadOS 13), the iPad Air runs on iPadOS 14. iPadOS and iPadOS 14 both render a higher density on the home screen. The customized options are there to set the schedule for Dark Mode Theme. The App Expose has become the talk-of-the-town as an added feature in iPadOS. It lets one view all the applications open in the background by tapping the running app’s icon. But, multi-user support is absent in iPadOS. iPadOS 14 also addresses the issue of the App Library. The biggest achievement of iPadOS 14 is the expansion of Apple Pencil Support. The “Scribble Phenomenon” allows the flexibility to write in any text field. Also, Shape Recognition lets one deliver perfection of any geometrical shapes. Hence, iPad Air stands tall in comparison to the iPad.

Chip Bionics

The iPad carries the A12 Bionic Chip, whereas the iPad Air embeds A14 Bionic Chip. Starting from the A12 Bionic Chip, one will see an increment in a performance boost. A12 Bionic Chip has six-core processors, a dual performance core, and a sync of four efficiency cores. But, the A14 has six-core processors, two high-performance processors, and four energy-efficient processors. In comparison to 7-nm size technology, the A14 Bionic Chip builds on 5-nm size technology. So, it will add more speed and (40%) performance booster than the A12 Bionic Chip. It is due to more transistors in tablet architecture.

Body

The iPad Air is lighter, thinner, and holds a larger display than the iPad. Both have 264 pixels per inch display specifications. But, the 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display of iPad Air will deliver a better quality of pictures and images. The iPad carries a 10.2-inch Liquid Retina display. Also, the lamination technology in iPad Air enhances the touch-experience.

Capturing Shots

Somewhere, the camera quality is a vital attribute. The iPad carries a 1.2 MP Front Camera and an 8 MP Rear Camera. The iPad Air has an 8 MP Front Camera and a 12 MP Rear Camera. So, capturing selfies and attending video calls (FaceTime) will be better on the iPad Air. In case of taking snapshots from the rear camera, iPad Air will take a giant leap. The Zooming quality of both extends up to 1500%.

Connectivity & Battery

The iPad Air comes with Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. So, it is three-fold faster than its predecessor. Also, it decreases the latency by more than 70%. The transfer speed of Wi-Fi 6 is twice more than that of Wi-Fi 5. iPad supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac. So, it renders the speed range of 433 Mbps to a few gigabits per second. Both iPad and iPad Air deliver 10 hours of battery life. The iPad Air supports Bluetooth 5technology. Compared to this, the iPad supports Bluetooth 4.2. Bluetooth 5 is two times faster than Bluetooth 4.2. It can transfer files to a range of 120 m rather than 30 m in Bluetooth 4.2. Also, it will be better for IoT-based devices to render smart solutions products.

The iPad has a Lightning connector. It also carries a Lightning to USB-C Connector. The iPad Air has a modern USB-C Connector. Also, iPad Air lacks the headphone jack that is present on the iPad. iPad Air has better Apple Pencil support than the iPad. iPad Air comes with second-generation Apple Pencil technology. But, the iPad supports the first generation.

Price

After measuring all the parameters, the final mark will be for the price of each gadget. The iPad with 32 GB storage comes for USD 329. The 128 GB variant increases the cost to USD 429. To take Wi-Fi and Cellular models, it will be USD 459 (for 32 GB) and 559 USD (for 128 GB). The iPad Air has a basic 64 GB storage model that is 599 USD. For a 256 GB variant, the price of iPad Air is 749 USD. With the Wi-Fi and Cellular model, it is worth 729 USD (for 64 GB) and 829 GB (for 256 GB).

Conclusion

Defeating the iPad on every front, iPad Air shows the quality of features it carries. But, if the budget is somewhere between 300 to 500 USD, it is the iPad that will be on the wishlist of the buyers.
