Pokemon Go Season 5 GBL is live, and Niantic has introduced a new challenge battle for the trainers. The Catch Cup is finally live in its third week of Season 5, and this meta is very different from Great, Ultra, or Master League battles. Like previous week’s battles like Little Cup and Kanto Cup, the Catch Cup also has some limitations that make it special. In this battle cup, players can use only a certain Pokemon. Players are only allowed to use those Pokemon that are caught during Season 5. The maximum Pokemon CP for the battle is 1500, and using Mythical Pokemon are completely restricted.

Players can also use those Pokemon that were hatched during Season 5. As compared to other battle modes, this one is typical for most of the trainers. It is because it’s been only two weeks of Season 5, and most of the trainers don’t have powerful Pokemon to use. However, players can choose a decent fit to tackle the powerful trios of the Catch Cup. Even after plenty of limitation, here is the list of the decent team that players can use:

● Skarmory, Alolan Marowak, and Scrafty.

● Wigglytuff, Skarmory, and Whiscash.

● Sirfetch’d, Altaria, and Wigglytuff.

Skarmory is an all-time favorite Pokemon for Great League battles. It’s a Steel/Flying-type Pokemon with incredible speed and defensive stat. This Pokemon doesn’t have any pre-evolution form, which is an excellent thing for trainers. Players only need to invest on its power-up or to buy a new move. The best move of Skarmory is Steel Wing as a Fast attack and Sky Attack as Charge Attack. Skarmory has very few weaknesses, and it is only weak against Electric and Fire-type Pokemon.

Another beast Pokemon of the Great League is Alolan Marowak. It’s a Ghost/Fire dual-type Pokemon with some incredible movesets. Alolan Marowak is powerful against several types of Pokemon. Its best move for Catch Cup is Fire Spin as a Fast move and Shadow Bone or Shadow Ball as a Charge move. However, Alolan Marowak is weak against Ghost, Ground, Rock, Water, and Dark-type moves.

Scrafty is also a great pick for the Catch Cup. Finding this Pokemon in the wild is pretty difficult, but players can get it by hatching 5KM eggs. It’s a dual Dark/Fighting-type Pokemon that evolves from Scraggy. For PvP, the best move for Scrafty is Snarl as a Fast move and Foul Play as a Charge move. Scrafty is weak against Fairy, Flying, and Fighting-type Pokemon.

Wigglytuff is a well-known Pokemon that evolves from Jigglypuff. It’s dual Normal/Fairy-type Pokemon. It’s defensive, and stamina stats are incredible for Great League battles. Its powerful moves for PvP are Charm as Fast move and Rough Play as Charge move. Wigglytuff is only weak against steel and Poison-type Pokemon.

Sirfetch’d a newly launched Pokemon in Pokemon Go. But its first form Farfetch’d have been available in Pokemon Go for a long time. Players who have enough candies of Farfetch’d evolve in Sirfetch’d. It can be obtained from hatching the 7KM eggs or by winning GBL matches. Sirfetch’d is a pure Fighting-type Pokemon. Its best moves for Catch Cup are Fury Cutter as Fast move and Brave Bird as Charge move. Both of these moves will deal the best damage. However, Sirfetch’d is weak against Psychic, Fairy, and Flying-type Pokemon.

Whiscash is a highly preferred Pokemon for Great League battles. The biggest reason behind the high preference is because of its dual Water/Ground-type Pokemon. Whiscash is strong against several types of moves but mainly weak against Grass-type moves. The best move of Whiscash is Water Gun as Fast move and Mud Bomb as Charge move.

Altaria is tanky Pokemon with incredible moves. It is also a dual Dragon/Flying-type Pokemon that evolved from Swablu. To evolve Swablu into Altaria, players need to collect 400 candies first and additional candies to power up. For PvP battle, Altaria is a beast, and its first form can be found easily in the wild. While playing with Altaria in Catch Cup, make sure to use Dragon Breath as a Fast move and Sky Attack as a Charge move. However, Altaria is weak against Ice, Fairy, Dragon, and Rock-type moves.

Conclusion

Catch Cup is creating problems for many trainers because players didn’t have enough time to catch and power up their Pokemon. However, most players’ situations are the same, so there are chances that opponents could face a similar issue. But if any player wants to play safe, they should use the team mentioned above to win a high number of battles.
