Windows Computer is Not Recognizing Headphones? Here are the Fixes

Imagine that you have plugged your headphones into your computer, but it fails to detect the headphones. You then attempt to connect it again and get the same result. But, when you plug the same headphones in another device, say your laptop, then they work perfectly fine. Well, if your Windows computer is not recognizing your headphones, then check out the fixes mentioned below.

Before you get started with the troubleshooting process, do check if the headphones are working properly on other devices or not.

Set the Headphone as the Standard Playback Device

  1. Go to the Windows icon and click on it.
  2. Once you see the search section, input ‘control panel’ in it and select the OK button to launch the Control Panel.
  3. Then go to the tab of Playback, and beneath it, right-click on the screen.
  4. From the context menu, choose the ‘Show Disabled Devices’ option.
  5. You will see all the headphones there, so select the headphone device and right-click on it, then choose the Enable option.
  6. Now, select the ‘Set as Default’ option and then hit the Apply button.

Modify the Standard Sound Format

You can modify the standard sound format by following the instructions provided below:

  1. Navigate to the Windows icon and right-click on it.
  2. After that, choose the Control Panel option.
  3. You should hit on the ‘Hardware and Sound’ option and then choose the Sound option.
  4. Reach the tab of Playback and twice click on the standard playback device.
  5. Then move to the tab of Advanced; you should modify the standard sound format by going to the pull-down menu.

Using Playing Audio Troubleshooter

You can run the audio troubleshooter by following these steps given below:

  1. Tap the Windows key on the keyboard to invoke the Search section.
  2. Then insert ‘troubleshoot’ in it and select the OK button to launch the Troubleshoot screen.
  3. After that, select the ‘Playing Audio’ option and click on Run the troubleshooter.
  4. You should select the Next button.
  5. Later, click on the Headphones option and then choose the Next button.
  6. Afterward, go to the ‘Do not open Audio Enhancements’ option and select it.
  7. Navigate to the ‘Play test sounds’ option and click on it.
  8. In case you did not hear a sound, select ‘I didn’t hear anything.’
  9. Now, you may be prompted to install the audio driver again.
