COVID-19 IMPACTS ON EDUCATION

Introduction

COVID-19 took over this entire world as a massive storm, leaving a grave impact on the economy of the countries. COVID not only affected the corporate businesses but small home-based businesses, schools, servicing sector industry, and whatnot. Even though 2019 passed and now 2020 is almost over but we are still stuck with this pandemic, with no certainty what so ever, about when this pandemic will end.

The pandemic caused socio-economic disruption and the education system around the world had to take immediate measures to protect their students and teachers. This is why all the education and learning institutions around the world were shut down.

Impact of COVID-19 on Eduction

In this article, we will discuss the impact of covid19 on education around the world. We already know that the government issued strict measures for the school to school to follow physical education in school and college, however, online classes were done on a wide scale for college students. We saw that teacher was offering their courses online, there were online Quran classes in USA that were taking place efficiently.

Where online classes were working well for secondary students or college students, it didn’t work so well for kids aged 3 to 8 years old. The physical classes were shut down by the government of each country according to several covid-19 cases in that particular town.

This closure was done for a long period, starting in March 2020 and the social distancing ban was lifted with several phases and protocols to follow, which the education sectors were to follow as well. Depending on the situation of the state, the city you were living in, the government of each state announced certain SOP’S for the school to follow before they started functioning normally.

How did Education continue during the Pandemic?

The following were a few measures that were taken to enhance education during the covid-19 pandemic. Because even though schools were shut down, the school's management and teacher were constantly coming up with ways to deliver education safely and effectively.

  • Schools and colleges introduced several means of distance learning tools.
  • Google classrooms were introduced.
  • Classes were held on zoom as well.
  • A lot of students were given study packs and were asked to submit their home works at the end of the week in their specified period.
  • Teachers made sure they were available during a certain hour to help students with their queries.
  • Teachers also made effort to prepare online study packs.
  • A few teachers also went above and beyond to deliver individual education to a few students who couldn’t cope with these online study methods.

The limitation is adopting an online education system that the country faced

Online education was adopted during covid-19 but there were a few limitations that students and teachers faced, which the government had to work on to provide a solution to ensure equality in distribution of education:

  • Not all students had access to the internet and laptops or mobiles etc. Therefore the government had to work on providing access to the internet with the required speed and make the availability of computers, mobile phones, tablets to their students for effective delivery of education.
  • The students were not able to create a proper virtual learning environment.
  • Educational broadcasting was another thing that was adopted to ensure there was no inequality done to a student with limited or no access to the internet or laptops.
  • The students who suffered the most were the ones with a disability. The education sector worked on various ways to make education available to students of special needs and disabilities.
  • A teacher who was not so tech-savvy received a lot of bashing from parents. It was hard to provide support to the teacher during this time. However, teachers were required to adapt to this new method of teaching and come up with ways to distribute education online as effectively as they could. A few schools offered digital training to their teachers, however not all the schools could do that.
  • In the switch from traditional education method to online education, parents also were the ones who had to adjust their schedules. Especially the parents of primary and Montessori students were the ones who faced a lot of trouble in helping their children adjust to online teaching.
  • Other than the normal school classes, A lot of extracurricular classes of painting, yoga, etc were given online as well, including online Quran classes in USA, Spanish classes, digital courses, etc.

Closing Words:

COVID-19 rattled the entire education system in a way that is going to have an impact on our children's educational development. This pandemic surely harmed the education of primary and pre-primary students more than secondary and college students which need recovery in the coming years.
