Why read science books?

Let's imagine the situation: citizen/student of any age and condition asks a scientist or teacher: Why can a person occupy their time reading about the habits of kangaroos, the limits of the universe, unusual phenomena from science fiction or alternative energies? What is interesting about the decline in bees in today's world or the appearance of a new drug? Is it exciting to discover where we come from given that it is difficult to find out where we are going?

They are valid and interesting questions. At school they are frequent. Outside of it, less. In any case, those of us who are dedicated to teaching scientific subjects and to some dissemination must take advantage of the occasion and give clear and convincing answers.

I like to think that reading is an activity of normal people. People have curiosity, concerns, doubts - people ask questions and science gives us situations connected with all this. It is an insecure space - which changes - but it provides clues and answers. Not everything is going to be TV, internet, mp3 and big brothers. Reading and acknowledging it in public - it is not frequent - are healthy activities that increase self-esteem and make us grow as people.

The associated nuances of intellectuality or a certain superiority are typical of vain and pedantic people. Reading science - or any other topic - is a consequence of a rich inner world, it is a sign of curiosity, of search, because reading is traveling, it is learning, it is growing, it is flying, it is sharing, it is discovering- Interleaving Borges With R. Fresan, we assume that a book is a living weapon - its birthday - of massive construction. Leo, therefore I exist. Why read science then? Making it clear that the important thing is to read, assuming the reading of texts related to science provides certain nuances that I intend to highlight.

In some way, as science occupies everyday spaces that affect us, establishing relationships with science is a way of feeling life. Reading science is opening doors and windows to a physical reality that surrounds you, it is entering subtle neighboring territories with which we are not completely familiar - but which were always there.

It is to make an environment visible to the eyes of knowledge, understanding and reflection. Reading science is becoming aware of another reality alien to common sense that transforms us into a kind of dragon with a thousand heads and two thousand eyes.

Reading science is an act of liberation and rebellion against a society identified with the virtual, with the superficial. It forces me to think of a world where a good part of its inhabitants are dedicated to feeling well-being or making money. From exercise, my brain comes out more agile and stronger.

Science allows me to go deeper through a positive addiction because behind an idea or a scientific one, others and others usually appear - there is always room for another. The future is open to a multitude of possibilities. It opens like the branches of a tree.

Finally, science should be read because the past is full of great geniuses united with masters of popularization and culture who knew how to develop the ideas that condensed inexplicable texts. Reading and understanding these people produces great personal satisfaction without harming anyone.(Best Science Books)
