Keeping Up with Kylie Jenner’vs Business: How Viral TikTok Video Started a Trademark Application

In this day and age, it would be virtually impossible to meet anyone who doesn’t know about the Kardashians and their two half-sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner. Their family’s reality TV show Keeping Up With The Kardashians has had a lot of people glued to their screens, just to know what is happening to the showbiz family.

While all the sisters are successful in their endeavors, the youngest Kardashian-Jenner, Kylie, has made waves in the make-up industry, not to mention all her trademarks for her business Kylie Cosmetics.

In this article, you will “keep up” with Kylie Jenner’s newest trademarking endeavor—which all started with her viral TikTok video that later became a  viral meme.

Who is Kylie Jenner?

Unless you have been living under a reality TV rock, you may have heard the name Kylie Jenner more than once. The youngest daughter of Kris Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner (formerly known as Bruce), this young entrepreneur is worth just under $900 million because of her business and self-named company, Kylie Cosmetics.

Aside from being famous because of a show, Kylie Jenner is widely followed on Instagram with over 204 million followers, making it easier for her to market Kylie Cosmetics and her newest line, Kylie Skin.

Kylie Cosmetics was launched in 2015 when Kylie was just 18 years old and it was a massive hit, with her famous lip kits were marked sold out in just 30 seconds. The huge amount of traffic even crashed her website, which just marked the start of her booming career in the cosmetics industry.

How a viral TikTok video inspired a trademark registration

Due to the recent popularity of TikTok, it wasn’t surprising to see Ms. Jenner jumping on the bandwagon like many Hollywood celebrities. The Kardashian-Jenners are well known when it comes to cashing in on their embarrassing moments, so kylie doing just that was to say the least, expected.

It all started with a viral TikTok video which was later turned into a funny viral meme. It starts with her giving a tour of the Kylie Cosmetics office, then with her entering a room where her daughter, Stormi Webster, was supposedly taking a nap. Jenner sings “rise and shine” to her daughter, who was visibly awake and looking around the room.

People were so amused that they made different versions of the “rise and shine” song on their own TikToks, and it wasn’t that long before all the memes started popping up on different Social Media platforms. Did this stop Kylie from earning money from this? Of course not. She decided to go and file a trademark application on the phrase “rise and shine” for her future merchandise.

To start things off, she launched two “Rise and Shine” hoodies on her personal shop for $65, which was sold out shortly after they were posted. This perhaps may be a brilliant strategy for Ms. Jenner but she may have a hard time getting it registered, because many people have filed applications on the same phrase.
