Difference Between Artificial Intelligence & Human Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) and human intelligence examine cognitive functions such as memory, problem-solving, learning, planning, language, reasoning, and understanding. Both of these play monumental parts in improving society.

In terms of their differences, AI is an invention created by human intelligence and is designed to make specific tasks much faster with less effort.

On the other hand, human intelligence is better at multi-tasking and it involves emotional aspects, human interaction, and self-awareness in the cognitive process. The following discussion further explores such differences.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

AI, sometimes called Machine Intelligence, was established in 1956 as an educational unit, and in the same year, the term “Artificial Intelligence Consulting” was coined by John McCarthy. The combination of philosophy, neuroscience, psychology, computer science, and economics is very important in AI research about how humans process information.

What is Human Intelligence?

Human intelligence is characterized by highly complex cognitive processes such as concept-building, perception, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving. It is also significantly affected by subjective factors such as motivation. Human intelligence is usually measured by IQ tests, which typically include working memory, verbal comprehension, processing speed, and perceptual reasoning.

The Difference Between Artificial Intelligence and Human Intelligence

Source of AI and Human Intelligence:

AI is an innovation created by human intelligence; Its initial development was credited to Norbert Weiner, who theorized on feedback mechanisms, while John McCarthy, the father of AI, coined the term and organized the first conference on research projects related to machine intelligence. Humans, on the other hand, are created with a natural ability to think, reason, and remember.

AI and Human Intelligence Speed:

Compared to humans, computers can process more information at a faster speed. For example, if the human mind can solve a math problem in 5 minutes, AI can solve 10 problems in a minute.

Decision Making:

AI is very much aimed at decision making when analyzing based on fully collected data. However, human decisions are influenced by subjective factors that do not rely solely on factors.

Accuracy:

AI often gives accurate results when working on a set of programmed rules. When it comes to human intelligence, there is usually room for “human error” because some details may be missing at one time.

Energy used:

The human brain uses 25 watts, while modern computers typically use only 2 watts.

Adaptation of AI and Human Intelligence:

Human intelligence is flexible in response to changes in its environment. This allows people to learn different skills. On the other hand, AI takes longer to adapt to new changes.

Multi-tasking:

Human intelligence supports multitasking as evidenced by the varied and simultaneous roles, but AI can only do fewer tasks at a time because a system can learn responsibilities at once.

Self-Awareness:

AI is still working on its potential for self-awareness as humans seek to establish their identities as they learn about themselves and mature.

Social interaction:

As social creatures, humans are much better at social interaction because they can process abstract information, are self-aware, and are sensitive to the emotions of others. On the other hand, AI does not achieve the ability to select relevant social and emotional cues.

Normal Function:

The most common function of human intelligence is innovation, because it can create, collaborate, brainstorm, and execute. In the case of AI, its general performance is more on optimization because it is efficient in terms of how it is programmed.
