Mental Health and Finances

Do mental health problems cause financial problems or financial problems cause mental health problems? It is not so easy to answer this question. However, one thing is for sure, and it is the fact that both mental health and finances are strongly linked to each other. People, who have borrowed money from somewhere or someone and are unable to repay, have more chances of experiencing depression.

What are the Money and Mental Health cycle?

In case your bank account is loaded with enough money to meet your needs, that's one less problem to worry about. When you worry, it causes stress, a mental health disorder, which in turn, may give rise to sleep deprivation, a predisposition to illness, and can also lead to addictions. All these factors can work together to make the state of our mental health as bad as possible and cause chronic depression and severe anxiety, poor concentration level, low self-esteem, problems at work, and that's just the beginning.

Depression Is No Respecter of Boundaries

According to a psychiatrist in Bhopal, one out of five women and one out of seven men experience depression and anxiety at some point of time in their lives. If studies are to be believed, issues of being in debt make a person vulnerable to mental health disorders. And, the heartbreaking fact is that these issues do not fade away merely by an act of hiding them and pretending to be fine. The fear of opening a credit card bill, or ignoring to receive calls from your bank would not help you repay the debt. Instead, it can make the problem worse.
