Does Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana help with employment

The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is the main scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) under the government of India. The aim of the scheme is to provide standardization and recognition of skills. It was launched by Narendra Modi in 2015, under the Skill India Mission. The scheme encourages the youth to learn job-related skills, or improve their existing skills so that they can seek out employment opportunities.

Under this scheme, the youth are trained in several sectors. Once the training is completed, they are assessed and certified, after which they can start working in both public and private sector jobs. India has a large number of young people who are driven and motivated, yet unemployed. This is due to a lack of resources and training. This is where the scheme can help.

India is overall a very young nation. More than half of the population of the country under the age group of 15-59, the employable age group. To fully utilize the benefits of this, the government needs to train these young people and provide them with jobs that offer them a stable income more than that of a daily wage worker. The training programs are worked out on the basis of National Occupational Standards (NOS) and the packs for qualification are developed in several sectors. AISECT NSDC has been made the coordinating and driving agent for the entire scheme.

The PMKVY scheme aspires to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of the workforce. This is done by providing daily wage workers with skills that would help them find better employment. This employment would be stable and also provide them with a stable source of income, that would be higher than what they would be earning as daily wage workers. The training and assessment fees are paid by the government. This is very encouraging for young people, as often they lack the financial resources to seek employment or training. After getting trained, the youth can seek employment both nationally and internationally.

Kaushal Vikas Yojana courses are divided into 34 sectors based on various industries and verticals. AISECT, being a leading partner with the scheme, is allotted the set up of 23 such training centres or Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs).

Some of the sectors that they provide training are as follows:

  1. IT-ITeS: There are several vocational courses that NSDC provides for a bright career in the IT field like Domestic Data Entry Operator.
  2. Apparel: This sector offers various jobs for both private and public companies, along with the opportunity to get self-employed. The courses offered under this sector include Sewing Machine Operator and Self Employed Tailor.
  3. Banking and Finance: This field is for people who are interested in the world of banking, finance, and insurance. The courses offered are: Accounts Executive - Accounts Payable and Receivable and Goods & Services Tax (GST) Accounts Assistant.
  4. Retail: The retail sector has many jobs to offer once an individual gets trained in courses like Retail Sales Associate.
  5. Plumbing: Jobs in the field of plumbing are always in demand, as they are required in every office, households, and even in parks.
  6. Security Management: The course gives training for maintaining office security. An example of a course offered for this field includes that of an Unarmed Security Guard.

After certification, AISECT PMKVY provides the individuals with assistance till they are employed. For more information, please visit www.aisect.org
