Why is it important to practice one-hand shooting?

The reason to own a gun can be many, but most people buy it usually for self-defence or hunting purposes. They take various shooting classes and practise sessions to become a professional at using the gun. But, amid all the classes and sessions, some hand gunners neglect doing any one-hand shooting.

Well, it may not seem important, but if you aren’t practising one-hand shooting, it is time that you get started, especially if you are using your Magpul Canada for self-defence.

To help you know better, we will include a few more details on why you should start one-hand shooting and tips to get started.

Shooting with one hand can be necessary.

Defensive shooting doesn’t usually occur under normal circumstances, and that is why one-hand shooting should be a crucial part of your normal training.

Sometimes the use for self-defence may not occur in broad daylight, meaning you won’t have enough time to take the position and keep your assailant at bay simultaneously.

People who wish to serve in Special Forces like the FBI are required to qualify in the one-hand shooting too. In fact, the shooter must be capable of shooting from both dominant and non-dominant hands.

Three techniques to start practising one-hand shooting:

1- Straight-arm: As the name suggests, keep your arms straight, eye on the target and shooting side foot forward. If possible, put a bit extra weight on the front foot’s ball, about 60%. The shooting arm needs to be extended straight out until the sight syncs with the target and your eye. This method is typically used by the Olympic shooters, but the shooting technique used in the Olympics is quite different from practical shooting.

2- Canted: This method is similar to the straight-arm method, but you are required to cant the gun a little to the inner side by tilting it towards your body. Avoid going overboard while tilting because that will only hinder indexing the sight. So, don’t tilt more than 45 degrees. This method may not be as simple as it seems for everyone; that is why you will require doing some experiments.

3- Shotokan punch: This technique is quite similar to that of a punching technique taught in Shotokan karate, hence the name. Similar to other technique, the foot goes forward with almost 60% weight on the front foot. Then make a fist in your non-shooting hand and bring it near your body with the palm side close to your chest, just as one does in a karate punch.

Over to you Well, we are hopeful that this article was able to tell you the importance of one-hand shooting. So, use the techniques mentioned above to ensure your purchased Magpul in Canada comes in handy at dire times.
