Modern Material Handling equipment

Almost all material handling equipment is changed drastically with the advent of modernization and sophistication in technology and mechanics. Previous material handling equipment was manually operated, and they required a human source to handle them for working.

Nowadays most of the tools and machines are automated and self-operated based on the algorithms that govern their working and ensure the smooth workflow of material handling solutions and the product life cycle.

How Material Handling Works?

Material handling is one of the sophisticated and organized processes involved in logistics. It deals with the operations and handling of the tools and machinery responsible for carrying the products and other materials relating to the development, storage, and delivery of the goods being prepared by a specific company.

Different types of material handling equipment are involved to carry out various tasks assigned to them. The material handling equipment is classified based on the phases and domains in which they are used for example the equipment that is responsible for handling heavy materials or multiple things at the same time are all classified under bulk material handling type.

Material handling is usually of 3 types based on the systems deployed and used by various organizations all around the globe. They are classified based on their work and the process involved in their systems. All these types are discussed below in detail.

Manual Material Handling

The manual material handling process is the traditional sort of material handling system that is used for quite a while now. Manual material handling was once used by almost all sorts of organizations to fulfill their logistics needs. As the name indicates, manual material handling involved all operations and work manually handled by the human workforce deployed by a company. From the manufacturing, storage, and disposal, all the phases of the product life cycle are manually optimized and managed.

Automated Material Handling

Automated material handling is the modern form of material handling system that is getting popular among all sorts of organizations involved in logistics and supply chain management. It has enabled the companies to automate their every domain from manufacturing of products to storage in the warehouse and even the shipment of prepared goods to the markets. Automated material handling involved automated system software that operates the machines and tools that are used in material handling.

Automation does not only enhance the productivity for the organization but enable them to save time and a lot of extra resources by minimizing the load on the manual labor and other human resource deployed in various fields.

Although many small-scale businesses are still reluctant to move towards the complete automation system as it does require some initial cost to pay upfront on its deployment and management afterward.

Semi-Automated Material Handling

It is a hybrid model of material handling systems that involve both manual and automated material handling systems collaboration. It is the most sorts after type of material handling process and is widely accepted and accredited by small and large-scale organizations all around the globe.

It is the hybrid concept that enables the companies that are being afraid of moving towards fully automated processes, they happily go for the hybrid approach in which automated software systems and automated machines are manually operated and monitored by the human resource workforce.  Rather than being a hybrid system, it does involve maximizing the productivity of the whole product life cycle with professional standard efficiency.
