Generally, it's safe to take milk thistle in recommended doses. Some people have reported nausea, gas, diarrhea, or loss of appetite. heartburn, upset stomach (dyspepsia), hangover, gallbladder problems, menstrual pain, depression, and even certain types of cancer. Milk thistle is sometimes used to promote weight loss, but there's very little research to support its ability to enhance fat loss or improve body composition.
