That said, if the product is still produced and sold, the difference between the photographer and the painter ceases to exist.

Without photography, we would have no way to capture those precious memories of our lives with a cell phone, or a personal camera, and no one would have the option to take pictures of anything at all. It is the businessman who is looking to promote and sell his product, and not necessarily the photographer. Usually, it's the client who approaches the artist and requests a sample of their work. When they are satisfied with the overall quality of the product, then they will contact the photographer and ask them to produce a brochure or other type of product to sell. While this may seem like the simple idea, it really isn't, because there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.
