We knew that this Bluetooth 5 announcement was coming last week, when Bluetooth SIG CEO Mark Powell tipped us all off.As already outlined, Bluetooth 5 quadruples the range and doubles the speed of Bluetooth 4.2.Perhaps most interestingly of all, we've also learned that Bluetooth 5 will increase data broadcasting capacity by 800 percent. This is what will allegedly "propel the next generation of 'connectionless' services like beacons and location-relevant information and navigation."Related: Best Bluetooth speakersWhat this means in plain English is that Bluetooth 5 will be able to share much more information between devices without having to drag you through the connection procedure. This will open out far more possibilities in terms of public beacons, which will aid with things like indoor navigation.

EA has released a launch trailer for the next batch of DLC arriving for online shooter Star Wars Battlefront, offering a glimpse at the new maps, new mode and its two new playable characters – bounty hunter Dengar and the one and only Lando Calrissian.Developer DICE has also confirmed a number of details about the expansion in a post on its website, revealing that it will include two new blasters, three new star cards and five maps set on Bespin's Cloud City – the location of The Empire Strikes Back's third act.A new vehicle, the Cloud City Cloud Car will also be available – presumably on just the new maps – and DICE also revealed the set-up of new mode, Sabotage. This likely means the mode will focus on the Rebels attempting to destroy these generators, and the Empire defending them. However, the exact details of the mode haven't been confirmed just yet. Also, during the clip and after the mention of a new mode, four playable heroes can be seen playing at once – which would be a unique feature if it formed part of the new mode.
At large we re trying to solve the complexity of digital local presence for large national or global multi location businesses, — being fitness chains, retailers, banks, fast food chains or hotels — where the common denominator is multi locations and multi platform presence says PinMeTo co-founder and sales guy Petter Palander.Perhaps self-servingly, Palander also says that PinMeTo s own studies have also shown that content published locally generates up to 300 per cent more views, and 75 per cent more clicks, Likes, and shares on Facebook than the same content published on the brand s central page. That often means not bothering at all and in turn that means leaving money on the table. To that end, Palander says that by using PinMeTo brands can now publish posts containing dynamic localized fields to all of their global locations so that each post will contain locally relevant information such as address or phone number. You find us at street in city .And in addition to posting content, the platform provides statistics on post performance and engagement ranging from company wide statistics down to the results of a single post at a single location.
If you re keeping close watch on the development of Nintendo s second mobile app, Pokémon Go, you know you ve gotta catch em all when it s finally out in July. But we live busy lives, and rather than opening up the app every time a wild Pokémon appears, Nintendo s made a wearable to make things easier. The Pokémon Go Plus is a wrist wearable that features the prominent Pokéball design as a button. The iOS and Android game is similar to Ingress, which was developed by the same studio — Niantic, Inc. Pokémon appear based on your location, and you can catch them, train them, and compete to be the king of gyms. The Plus will flash red if the attempt is failed, or it will flash a rainbow pattern if you successfully capture the Pokémon. The device is an odd companion to the game, as you won t be able to tell what Pokémon you re capturing — you ll have to take out your smartphone anyway to see that.
The Nut Find 3 is a Bluetooth tracking device that pairs with your phone to help you find your stuff, and it will alert you when you leave lost items such as your keys or wallet behind. The design of the Nut Find 3 focuses on loss prevention, so you never lose your items in the first place. We found these range notifications worked better than most other Bluetooth trackers, and we weren t plagued with false separation alerts as we moved around the building.Another feature that really stands out is the ability to set up silent zones. You can do this by entering an address, or dropping a pin on a map in the Nut Find app, and you can set as many silent zones as you like. This means if you lose your keys somewhere other than home, anyone running the Nut Find app can detect your keys and send that location information to your phone.

Denizens of Washington, D.C. will see a new mode of transportation near the nation's capital this summer: a 3D-printed, autonomous bus.and won in 2011, when it beat two of the show's champions .Local Motors then utilised the Watson developer APIs, including natural language classifier, entity extraction, speech to text and text to speech systems, to give users of Olli a seamless interaction experience. It's simple, minimalistic, to make a shape like a box, and all of this related to the use of the product.Microfactories near the location of intended use will be able to print cars in hours, with technicians inserting equipment ordered by the end user, whether these low-cost solutions are personally owned or publicly shared modes of transportation. The future is full of both," said Local Motors CEO and co-founder John B. Rogers, Jr. "In the future, it is shared transportation that is organizationally owned, there will be shared transportation that is privately owned, and then there will be transportation that is not shared that is privately owned.
Apple may claim that the iPhone takes more photos than any other camera, but that doesn t mean those photos are better than shots from an actual camera.Other ads in the series show how smartphone cameras often have trouble capturing motion and the small size makes photographers more likely to get their own finger in the shot. For shooting in less-than-ideal conditions, or for capturing those once-in-a-lifetime moments that you really don t want to miss, there s no substitute for the real thing. But, King said smartphone cameras aren t all negative — they ve helped make everyone interested in photography. But, he said the biggest limitation to shooting with a smartphone is the lack of zoom and the limited resolution for making large prints.Rethink created the series as a way to help the three-location camera store chain compete with smartphone cameras — but it s also getting a collective chuckle from many photographers who have had similar thoughts seeing the latest iPhone photo ads.

This should lower delivery costs by about half to less than eight cents a package, according to the vice president of JD.com.These drones can carry packages up to 33 pounds at speeds up to 34 miles per hour and a maximum distance of 12 miles. On top of that, the drones can reduce total delivery times between distribution centers from multiple hours to less than 20 minutes.Importantly, the actual delivery to consumers will still occur through ground transportation.Amazon and Google have been testing their own drone delivery systems Prime Air and Project Wing, respectively but have not been able to fight the heavy FAA regulations in the U.S.Furthermore, it's unclear if or when the FAA would adjust its rules to facilitate drone deliveries in the U.S.Therefore, Amazon and Google could consider China as a potential location to test their drone delivery programs.Drones turned the corner in 2015 to become a popular consumer device, while a framework for regulation that legitimizes drones in the US began to take shape. The accelerating pace of drone adoption is also pushing governments to create new regulations that balance safety and innovation.Safer technology and better regulation will open up new applications for drones in the commercial sector, including drone delivery programs like Amazon s Prime Air and Google s Project Wing initiatives.Jonathan Camhi, research analyst for BI Intelligence, Business Insider's premium research service, has compiled a detailed drones report that forecasts sales revenues for consumer, enterprise, and military drones. Finally, it examines the regulatory landscape in several markets and explains how technologies like obstacle avoidance and drone-to-drone communications will impact drone adoption. Here are some of the key takeaways from the report:We project revenues from drones sales to top $12 billion in 2021, up from just over $8 billion last year.Shipments of consumer drones will more than quadruple over the next five years, fueled by increasing price competition and new technologies that make flying drones easier for beginners.Growth in the enterprise sector will outpace the consumer sector in both shipments and revenues as regulations open up new use cases in the US and EU, the two biggest potential markets for enterprise drones.Technologies like geo-fencing and collision avoidance will make flying drones safer and make regulators feel more comfortable with larger numbers of drones taking to the skies.Right now FAA regulations have limited commercial drones to a select few industries and applications like aerial surveying in the agriculture, mining, and oil and gas sectors. The military sector will continue to lead all other sectors in drone spending during our forecast period thanks to the high cost of military drones and the growing number of countries seeking to acquire them.In full, the report:Compares drone adoption across the consumer, enterprise, and government sectors.Breaks down drone regulations across several key markets and explains how they ve impacted adoption.Discusses popular use cases for drones in the enterprise sector, as well as nascent use case that are on the rise.Analyzes how different drone manufacturers are trying to differentiate their offerings with better hardware and software components.Explains how drone manufacturers are quickly enabling autonomous flight in their products that will be a major boon for drone adoption. To get your copy of this invaluable guide, choose one of these options:Subscribe to an ALL-ACCESS Membership with BI Intelligence and gain immediate access to this report AND over 100 other expertly researched deep-dive reports, subscriptions to all of our daily newsletters, and much more.START A MEMBERSHIPPurchase the report and download it immediately from our research store.
The Windows 10 Anniversary Edition will include an update that allows the user to select where larger apps are installed when downloading them from the Windows Store. It is also unclear what the threshold for a large file is according to Microsoft.A Reddit user that has access to the update has posted a screenshot in German that says you must select a folder with at least 26.83GB available.Smaller apps will still, reportedly, go straight to the default folder. This means it s only available to Windows Insiders so far, but if there s no snags, it ll roll out to everyone soon. The ability to select a download location for games could be a significant change for the Windows Store and its attempts to woo more gamers.
We ve been hearing about American Gods excellent casting choices for a while now, but now we can see a few of them in action—new images have been released giving us our first look at Mr. Wednesday, Shadow Moon, and a memorable location from the book to boot.Entertainment Weekly has unveiled two new photos, featuring Mr. Wednesday played by Ian McShane , Shadow Moon played by Ricky Whittle , and Mad Sweeney played by Pablo Schreiber —with Shadow Moon and Mad Sweeney going toe-to-toe in front of the glory of Jack s Crocodile Bar:It s a recreation of a scene early on in Neil Gaiman s iconic novel, where Shadow is only just entering the weird and wonderful world of the gods, proving himself to Wednesday in his bust-up with Sweeney the leprechaun.Producer Bryan Fuller told the site that the set is the tonal landgrab for what American Gods wants to get out of its aesthetic:It was one of the sets that we were the most excited about and an opportunity to do a tonal landgrab for what we are and what the style of the show will be.Jack s is a kind of hillbilly chic aesthetic for Shadow s entrée into the world of the gods. And man, it looks pretty fabulous so far.American Gods is set to hit Starz next year.
Cisco is working on creating a new incubator with smart cities, the Internet of Things, and healthcare as its primary points of focus. This new innovation center, based in Manchester and founded in coordination with the Manchester Science Partnerships MSP , will be called Mi-IDEA Manchester Inspired-Innovation Digital Enterprise Alliance .Manchester is an interesting choice for the center s location. Its network, which spans the UK and Ireland, already includes several key incubators – including Idea London. The healthcare sector is also a ripe industry that these technologies can improve. As more sensors and networking solutions are developed, the potential for new solutions in these areas is virtually unlimited.
Just as the Bluetooth 4 standard introduced the Bluetooth Low Energy profile to facilitate development of those types of devices, the upcoming Bluetooth 5 spec will put a focus on increasing Bluetooth's range, speed, and spread in order to further drive the development of the Internet of Things IoT , as well as "beacons", which are mostly used for serving location-relevant information, a.k.a.Wi-Fi has greater bandwidth but is quite uncommon among devices outside of smartphones and tablets and has limited broadcasting capability. In particular, the new spec will focus on three areas: the range that data can travel, the speed at which it travels, and its ability to broadcast messages to myriads of recipients at the same time. These concerns weren't chosen at random, of course, and serve to help push the budding IoT and beacon markets.Being able to carry messages farther and faster will be of extreme help in houses, where data has to navigate through walls, sometimes outside the house.Market analysts predict that more than 371 million such beacons will ship by 2020, making it a rather lucrative market for device makers, establishments, and, of course, advertisers.

Credit FacebookFacebook will soon start using smartphone location services to track when people visit physical shops after clicking on an advert for that same retailer.User data will be anonymised, so Facebook won't tell retailers or advertisers who visited what shop, but will provide them with data that shows how online ads lead to physical shop visits. The additions to Facebook's Local Awareness system will also show users adverts for nearby shops and provide in-advert directions to find them.According to Facebook, mobile is involved in 45 per cent of shopping journeys, but more than 90 per cent of all retail sales still take place in stores.French supermarket E.Leclerc found that approximately 12 per cent of people who clicked on its adverts went on to visit a shop within seven days.Facebook is also providing businesses with an 'offline conversions API' that will let retailers match transaction data from in-store sales with demographic information about shoppers.
Facebook will soon use location services on smartphones to track the shops people walk into in a bid to show advertisers the effectiveness of their ads on the social network site.View photosMoreFacebook will know if you entered a store Dominic Lipinski/PA The company s new Local Awareness feature allows advertisers to see how many people entered one of its stores after seeing the advert on Facebook. This is calculated by Facebook s Offline Conversions API which matches the data for the number of people who entered a store – gathered from smartphone users who have location services turned on – with the data for the number of people who saw that store s advert. The feature, which allows businesses to reach out to local potential customers by including a map alongside the ad, is planned to be rolled out in the next few months.
These can range from an erroneous implementation of hreflang or JSON-LD to helping a client target territories with no ISO country code – where GEO IP would only get you 60% accuracy and browser location isn t an option. And it is this assertion that I would like to challenge most vehemently, taking four examples from the technical SEO world.A client is going through a migration but doesn t want to shell out for a full service, saying Our development team has done loads of these.People forget to self-reference, use the wrong codes, use incomplete codes, miss just one territory from their list, don t include all versions of the page or simply forget to regularly audit their implementation.More practically it is not just about going through the same tired checklist of robots.txt, 301 redirects and pipes vs hyphens, but about working with all other elements of a broader SEO strategy and with the client s development, marketing, senior management and web teams to present the best possible version of their site to the world.Max Holloway is Senior Search Manager at Pi Datametrics and a contributor to Search Engine Watch
