Given the rate of turnover in the smartphone market, it is almost expected that consumers change phones every two to three years. It’s definitely unheard of for people to hold on to five-year-old phones that may not even be able to run the latest versions of Android, for example. In that case, very few people might be affected by T-Mobile’s … Continue reading

If you are one of the many Android users that are in the ROM community, then you have likely heard of Lineage OS but you’d probably be surprised how many compatible Lineage OS devices there are.Lineage OS came into being after Cyanogen Inc. attempted to commercialize CyanogenMod and miserably failed in its efforts to do so.Lineage OS is an open-source operating system based on Android, with its own open-source community. You might even need to track down bootloader unlock codes for certain devices, so make sure to do your homework beforehand. As long as enough people make enough noise, there are bound to be developers that will listen and help make a Lineage OS ROM for that device.Odds are that there are unofficial versions of Lineage OS and other custom ROMs floating around for your device, but it does not hurt to look around to make sure.
The first OnePlus phone — the OnePlus One — cost a mere $300 back in 2014, and it was a bargain compared to the $650 price tag of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and other competitors. The new OnePlus 7 Pro will set you back at least $669 for the cheapest model, or $750 for the fully kitted out version. That’s more than a $100 bump from the cheapest version of the OnePlus 6T, which debuted just last fall.As smartphone prices rise, so have the cost of OnePlus phones, which have long attempted to offer “flagship killer” specifications for less. The OnePlus 7 Pro is packed to the brim with new technology, and while it’s still about $300+ less than the likes of the Galaxy S10 Plus and the iPhone XS, one of its marquee features is rapidly disappearing — the appeal of a lower price tag, compared to the competition. That’s not to mention Google’s latest cheap phone, the Pixel 3a, which costs just $400; the midrange category is booming.
The torrent of Samsung leaks these past few weeks has mostly been about the company’s smartphones, but now we have a revelation about the still-mysterious foldable Samsung phone as well: it’ll be announced under the title of Galaxy Fold.Word about this comes from prolific leaker Evan Blass, a thorn in Samsung’s side, who began 2019 by revealing every last detail about the Galaxy S10 family of devices ahead of tomorrow’s launch. He’s had some help along the way, mind you, as Samsung has managed to leak a whole bunch of stuff itself, culminating today with a TV commercial airing prematurely in Norway.Opinions about the Galaxy Fold branding will surely differ. It’s marginally better than the most unimaginative (and nondescript) Galaxy F alternative, but it’s also grammatically wonky and, to my ear, a little too close to the Ford Galaxy to be a truly exciting name.In any case, we’ll know a lot more about Samsung’s first foldable device after the company’s gala event to launch the Galaxy S10 series tomorrow.
Samsung’s promised a much better look at its foldable phone at tomorrow’s big S10 event. We already caught a glimpse of the product late last year at the company’s developer conference, but among the many uncertainties with the product is what the hell the company will name the thing. After all, the device essentially represents an entirely new category for Samsung, so older naming conventions could be out the window. The “Galaxy F” name has been floated, but, well, nobody wants that.Perennial leaker Evan Blass (who’s most recently help expose the S10 to the world in recent months) says the handset will be the Galaxy Fold.Probably one to go on — certainly a step up from the Galaxy F, which is, frankly, a bit too easily mocked.
While most of the Samsung leaks have been focused on the Galaxy S10, and to a lesser extent the foldable Galaxy F, we have been hearing bits about other Galaxy devices that will be unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked next week.Wearable devices that Samsung just out by accident, thanks to an early update to its own app.The update was spotted by SamMobile, and show Samsung has added three new devices to the Galaxy Wearable (formerly Samsung Gear) app. That includes the Galaxy Active smartwatch, the wireless Galaxy Buds, and a new fitness tracker in the form of the Galaxy Fit e.Samsung fucked up and uploaded the updated Galaxy Wearables APK.At the time of writing all three devices are still present in the Galaxy Wearable app, though there's no other information to be found - particularly since we obviously can't connect to any of the new kit.
On Monday, Samsung issued a teaser video saying "The future of mobile will unfold on February 20, 2019", alongside imagery of Korean and English words that spell out "the future unfolds" sliding along an invisible curved surface. At this point, we expect to see more than the flash of folding phone prototype Samsung briefly waved around at its developers conference this past November. It's already generating buzz, and for good reason.Xiaomi, a Chinese brand relatively unknown outside the US, has already challenged Samsung with a new kind of foldable phone design before it's even announced.Yet after Samsung' video Feb. 11 leak, I'm inclined to think "Galaxy Fold" could win out, since Samsung chose the phrase "the future unfolds" and not something with an X in it, like "the future is exciting".Although Galaxy X sounds a lot cooler and less prone to negative connotation -- "F" stands for "fail" and for a common four-letter curse word -- it makes sense for Samsung to avoid "copying" the iPhone X.
Samsung's foldable phone will be shown off on February 20 after the South Korean firm posted a teasing video which pretty much confirms it, on Twitter. The clip, which lasts 15 seconds, features the words "the future unfolds" and the date "02.20.19" which, for those of you who have been living under a rock recently is the Samsung Galaxy S10 launch date. There's also Korean text which wraps around an invisible block, hinting at a curved, foldable display on the the yet un-named Samsung foldable phone. You can see the video below. The future of mobile will unfold on February 20, 2019.We've heard a couple of different naming rumors regarding Samsung's foldable phone, with Galaxy X and Galaxy F being hinted at in various leaks.
Samsung may have just accidentally made its Galaxy S10 phones less exciting. In one of its teaser videos for the upcoming Unpacked 2019 event, it gave a glimpse of what may or may not be the final form of its foldable phone. But even if that isn’t the case, as most marketing materials usually are, that short spot was enough to inspire some to make renders of what the Galaxy F, or Galaxy Fold, could look like. The foldable prototype Samsung showed off last November was thick, clunky, and uninspiring. It was, however, only using a dummy case and Samsung promised the real deal will be thinner. Then again, Samsung does boast of a lot of things that don’t always reflect reality.
Whatever it'll eventually be called, turning the concept of a folding phone into a real, working device that people actually want to will challenge Samsung on everything from the device's durability to getting top app-makers on board.Portable enough to carry aroundWe only got a glimpse of the prototype foldable phone back in November, so it isn't clear how thick the device will be.Having used the foldable Royole FlexPai and the hinged, dual-screen ZTE Axon M, we've seen the pitfalls.A premium, not toy-like, feelNobody wants to buy a device that feels slower, older or less potent than a standard flagship phone that costs less.
Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked is set to take place on 20th February, and with MWC following shortly afterwards we're bound to see all sorts of new things that Samsung has planned for the future.Among them are and Galaxy S10 and the foldable Galaxy F - both of which feature in an advert Samsung Vietnam accidentally posted a wee bit too early. It's only a brief glimpse of the Galaxy Fold (00.23), but it's a much better look at the phone than we saw when Samsung first announced the phone last year. It's still shrouded in darkness, but gone is the bulky case that seemed designed to keep the phone's design hidden. If this is a proper glimpse at what's to come it means the phone has a much thinner bezel than Samsung let on.Which is good, because bezels suck.

Samsung has already shown off the foldable Galaxy phone on stage and confirmed it'll come in the first half of 2019 -- but it doesn't have a real name yet. There are at least four rumored front-runners, including the Galaxy X, Galaxy F, Galaxy Flex and Galaxy Fold.Samsung should definitely not choose "Galaxy F." In the US at least, "F" is for "fail," the lowest grade a person or thing can get. Both negative connotations for "Galaxy F" would open up Samsung to endlessly creative criticism akin to the worst online bullying, especially if the foldable phone turns out to be anything other than "s" for "stellar."But chances are high that Samsung's first foldable won't knock it out of the park on its first try.As one of the first of its kind, this foldable phone and others faces staggering challenges in how it's designed and how well the apps work with a bendable body.

Smartphones with foldable displays will hit the market in 2019 after years of speculation and anticipation.Samsung has been making W-series flip phones for the Chinese market since 2006, and it’s a line it continues to pursue in the present day.W-branded smartphones offer high-end specs like you would find in Samsung flagship Note and S series, including the latest chipsets, multiple cameras, and lots of RAM.Last year’s Samsung W2019 has dual 12MP rear cameras, a Snapdragon 845 chip, 6GB RAM, and 128GB or 256GB storage. The current rumors suggest it will ship with the Snapdragon 855 chipset (the latest and greatest from Qualcomm) and two batteries. The W2019 has a 4.2-inch outward-facing display and a 4.2-inch display inside — almost the same setup as the folding Galaxy prototype Samsung showed off last November.
