So I've had mixed reviews about recommendations for which business degree I should pursue right now in college.Half of the people tell me that marketing is better because it is more specialized, but the other half tell me management is better because it is a general degree that can be used for almost anything. But quite a few people have also told me that marketing is a useless degree that you should never pursue. What do you guys think?
Mr. Lau, president of Chinese internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd. TCEHY -0.17 % had just dropped out from the Clash Royale global top-100 players, and it was almost impossible to get his focus back to the topics we had to discuss, Supercell co-founder Ilkka Paananen wrote on his blog after the deal was announced last month.Tencent s $8.6 billion deal to buy the Finnish games maker from Japan s SoftBank Group Corp. 9984 0.23 % and other shareholders shines a spotlight on Mr. Lau, a low-key but polished former Goldman Sachs GS -0.55 % banker. The 43-year-old executive is central to the Chinese company s ambitions to grow outside China—where it leads in videogames and runs the biggest messaging platforms—into a global company.Mr. Lau s obsession with Clash Royale —colleagues say he plays it and other Supercell games in the office—and his assurance that Supercell s management would stay in charge after the takeover helped win the deal. For Mr. Lau, the Supercell buy is the latest in a string of bold bets, starting with his decision more than a decade ago to leave Goldman Sachs to join Tencent, which was then an upstart internet company valued at $1.3 billion. He has since led Tencent s growth through deals to buy into China s biggest startups and major U.S. videogame companies.
A few years ago, a burrito joint near my college campus installed computers so that customers could place their orders without ever having to make eye contact with a cashier.it s fair to wonder if the robot uprising has already begun.According to a partial report on robotics in the workplace by global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company, it s not as simple as one day you re employed and the next day, your boss rolls in a machine to sit at your desk.It also depends on predictability of tasks, how data is collected, and how employees are managed. If there are more one-on-one interactions in the workplace and more need for specific expertise, there is less chance of automation. In occupations most related to predictable tasks and data collection, robotic replacements were most likely.

The team behind project management service Wrike spent the last few years building a general-purpose project management service that businesses can adopt to their own needs. That clearly worked, because as Wrike CEO Andrew Filev told me, the company s revenue grew 120 percent last year and it now has about 400 employees and 12,000 businesses on its paid platform. Now that this platform is in place, the team is looking at how it can better serve certain verticals through more specialized products. With Wrike for Marketers, the company launched the first of its new vertical solutions this week.We achieved great results in horizontal layers, Filev said.We built a work management solution for everybody, but now we can go deeper in certain verticals.

You probably know that Facebook is the number one social media platform, which most people use.Apart from the fact that we are using it for chatting with our friends or sharing the things we love such as photos, videos, or even document files, some people especially business owners use it as their number one source of traffic and sales and a spot for branding.Facebook has become one of the best drivers in terms of conversions and sales for most of my clients.Facebook marketing client 1: This client approached me to do full social media marketing and management for them.Although Facebook is not the platform that best gives them the most traffic, I ve found out that the social platform that best gives them conversions such as sign-ups and sales is Facebook.Facebook marketing client 2: This client approached me to do Facebook marketing only for their new brand.

Cisco has patched two vulnerabilities, including a remote denial of service bug in its Network Convergence System routers.Attackers can send packets to TCP listening ports running SSH, secure copy protocol, and secure FTP that can overwhelm NCS 6000 routers and cause processors to reload. The Borg rates the vulnerability CVE-2016-1426 as highly critical on account of it offering a method to remotely disrupt routers in certain configurations."The vulnerability is due to improper management of system timer resources," Cisco says in an advisory."An exploit could allow the attacker to cause a leak of system timer resources, leading to a non-operational state and an eventual reload of the route processor on the affected platform."The second, more boring, bug is graded medium severity and strikes SNMP configuration management messes in ASR 5000 enterprise routers older than versions 19.5 and 20.1.
Security boffins at ANZ, one of Australia's largest banks, have offered their nightHawk incident response tools for organisations running free Mandiant tools.Mandiant's open source platform is fit for enterprises requiring incident response at scale, and can run off a laptop for many investigations.ANZ bank security analysts Daniel Eden and Roshan Maskey published their work to GitHubThe custom asynchronous forensic tool depends on Mandiant Redline and operates on Amazon ElasticSearch backend."The application was born out of the inability to control multiple investigations or hundreds of endpoints in a single pane of glass," the pair say.Eden steps through the application's features in a demonstration video adding that the platform is available as a dependancy-preloaded CentOS ISO install.
A large sign at the curb greets arrivals at Building 9 of the Cisco Systems campus in San Jose, California, on Oct. 5, 2015.Cisco Systems released patches this week for several vulnerabilities in its IOS software for networking devices and the Cisco and WebEx conferencing servers. The most serious vulnerability affects the Cisco IOS XR software for the Cisco Network Convergence System NCS 6000 Series Routers.Unauthenticated, remote attackers can exploit the vulnerability by initiating a number of management connections to an affected device over the Secure Shell SSH , Secure Copy Protocol SCP or Secure FTP SFTP .Because it can affect the availability of a critical piece of equipment, like a router, Cisco has rated this vulnerability as high severity. There is no workaround and customers are advised to install the newly released patches.

Samsung s latest move comes as more technology companies tap into the automotive industry as it undergoes a shift toward next-generation vehicles such as electric and self-driving cars.Google parent Alphabet Inc. and Apple Inc. are accelerating efforts to develop electric cars of their own. This investment will strengthen our chip business for electric cars.We ll continue to expand our partnership with BYD in various sectors, Samsung said in a statement Friday. It said that it has no intention of participating in the management of BYD, which is backed by Warren Buffett s Berkshire Hathaway Inc.In a regulatory filing to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, BYD said Samsung s plan reflects the Korean conglomerate s confidence in the company, and the two parties will work together in the future on electric-vehicle components.
Xerox in January announced plans to break into two businesses, splitting its business-outsourcing operations from its legacy printer and copier division. As is often the case with such breakups, Xerox has drawn some interest in potential deals since then, people familiar with the matter said.Donnelley, which is also in the process of breaking up, expressed interest in putting its operations together with Xerox s remaining copier business, the people said. The proposal called for a deal that would have been structured as a so-called Morris Trust, a tax-efficient set-up in which Xerox would get a slight premium, one person said.Donnelley proposal called for its executives to take control, and for several hundred million dollars in new cost cuts, the person added. The Xerox board reviewed the proposal with its advisers before telling R.R.
Atlassian, the $5.7 billion business software company that also snuck in its much-anticipated IPO at the tail end of 2015, just bought tiny startup StatusPage in its first acquisition since going public.Notably, Atlassian has a pretty good track record with acquisitions: Its first and still-flagship product, the issue-tracking s0ftware JIRA, was built in-house.But chat app HipChat and code management tool BitBucket, its two other biggest businesses, both came to Atlassian via acquisition while they were still very young startups. What the Y Combinator-backed StatusPage brings to the table is all in the name. When a website or service goes down or is having other issues, the company operating the site need a way to tell customers.StatusPage gives an easy way for its customers to quickly build a website that keeps users appraised of the status of their service."A service without status is like a mobile phone without service bars," says Atlassian President Jay Simons, insofar as you have no clue if it's going to work.If you're anything like me, you probably wish that "Pokémon Go" had this kind of status indicator, to tell when the hit game's servers are too overloaded so you know to stop trying.
Two votes taken by the Federal Communications Commission today could have big implications for the transition to faster mobile networks and the discontinuance of old landline networks. In one item, the FCC voted to open up high-frequency spectrum to help carriers create 5G networks that would be faster than existing 4G ones. The second vote will make it easier for carriers to turn off old landline phone networks as long as they replace them with either wired or wireless equivalents."These new rules open up nearly 11GHz of high-frequency spectrum for flexible, mobile and fixed use wireless broadband—3.85GHz of licensed spectrum and 7 GHz of unlicensed spectrum," the FCC's announcement said. The frequencies are in the 28GHz, 37GHz, 39GHz, and 64-71GHz bands.Carriers have begun 5G research and testing, but the industry hasn't settled on what standards and technologies will be used to deploy next-generation networks.
When Fujifilm announced the X-T2 earlier this month, the company made a promise: it would bring that camera s improved autofocus algorithm to the X-Pro2 through a firmware update. This gave some X-Pro2 users reason to speculate that 4K video, a feature introduced with the X-T2 but not available on the X-Pro2, could also be added through firmware, since the cameras share much of the same internal hardware.Sorry, X-Pro users, but it looks like that s a great big nope, according to an interview several Fujifilm executives gave to DPReview. The difficulty with 4K video, as many Sony mirrorless users have found out, is heat management. The X-T2 has a heat sink to help mitigate the risk of overheating, a physical component the X-Pro2 lacks.Even with the heat sink, 4K clips are limited to 10 minutes on the X-T2, unless the optional Vertical Power Booster grip is attached.
As the product matures, internal teams, customers, and partners will all have ideas on how to make the product even better.Product managers then must collect, curate, and promote those ideas into features.Idea management ensures that key feedback and requests are seamlessly integrated into your product planning and development processes. It also allows you to confirm which ideas will add value to customers and the business. After all, that next idea could be the thing that makes your product a winner.we evaluate them on two axes: impact and effort.
