New Delhi : India recorded 50,035 cyber crime cases in 2020, an increase of 11.8 per cent over the previous year.

There have also been 578 cases of fake information on social media.This information was received from official data on Wednesday.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the rate of cyber crime in the country (incidents per one lakh population) has increased from 3.3 per cent in 2019 to 3.7 per cent in 2020.According to statistics, the number of cyber crime cases in the country in 2019 was 44,735 as against 27,248 in 2018.

According to NCRB data, in 2020, 4047 cases of online banking fraud, 1093 cases of OTP fraud, 1194 cases of credit / debit card fraud and 2160 cases related to ATMs were registered.

It said there were 578 cases of fake information on social media, 972 cases of online threats or cyber threats to women and children, 149 cases of fake profiles and 98 cases of data theft.

The NCRB, which operates under the Home Ministry, said 60.2 per cent of cyber crimes registered in 2020 were related to fraud (30,142 out of 50,035).According to the statistics, 6.6 per cent (3293 cases) of sexual abuse and 4.9 per cent (2440 cases) of rape were reported.

New Delhi: Amid the slowdown in business in the country, more than 1.5 million people, both formal and informal, lost their jobs in August .

According to a report by the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) , the number of people employed fell from 399.38 million in July to 397.78 million in August.

In this one month, about 1.3 million people have lost their jobs in rural India .According to the CMIE, the national unemployment rate rose to 8.32 per cent in July from 6.95 per cent.
