While this sounds counterintuitive, ifyou are restricting with food today, you are almost 100% guaranteed to overdo it withfood tomorrow. Notice the nexttime you’re eating a holiday treat what you say to yourself while you eat it. See if you can give yourbody and mind what they really need rather than asking food to fill in.

Our posts were written with the hope of providing helpful information during tough times, supporting the development of new skills while working with our own struggles, and sparking insights on certain situations. First up is a commitment to create video content on our new YouTube channel. We hope to provide mini practices and instructional videos that may help our viewers build new skills. I believe that we can heal through our community connections, just like we do in groups, so sharing information, teaching new skills, and most importantly connecting with the community is very important for me personally. Please keep connecting with us through whatever means feels best for you whether reading our posts or watching our videos.

The realization that we are alone in life can often be scary, depressing, and frankly, overwhelming if we consider the existential aspect of it all. Then, there is the loneliness in which there’s an estrangement from oneself. An important reminder that self-love is not selfish - self-love creates an internal atmosphere of nurturance that allows us to heal and continue growing. We can begin to feel our soul, our spirit, is with us all along and see that we are never truly alone when we know ourselves. In the end, we get to become a companion to ourselves, and eventually, we find that we can be alone without being lonely.

Sometimes the difficulty here is that people are not able to have the impact they wish to have on each other. In this case we miss each other and are not able to connect and instead of feeling better or closer we might feel even more distant. It can be scary to try and cross the chasm of miscommunication, but when we can truly share our feelings, we have a better chance. Although this is hard, if we stop to ask ourselves the questions, “Why am I about to share or speak? One method I use to help people engage in relationships is group therapy.

On top of that anxiety can also cause high blood pressure, just another consequence of lack of sleep. A lot of the negative impacts of sleep loss can be reversible after just one night of peaceful sleep, but how can we get better sleep? There are so many solutions and ideas of what one person can do to improve sleep and thus anxiety. Even though sleep monitoring (journal) does not show much improvement, sleep routines do have great impacts on our ability to get regular amounts of sleep each night. With a regular nightly routine around mindfulness and sleep times, one person could change their sleep quality and anxiety quickly.

AS things continue with COVID-19, I wanted to share a few techniques that might help each of us in this time of stress and fear. This short breathing count can do just that. It might take several times or even minutes long version of this. This can be used at any point in the day, I encourage trying to do this throughout your day for when you might need to get some water, or clean, or even possibly when your making lunch. If you are engaged in conversation you might want to share with them you need a moment to take some space.

The question of "Who am I? " is one that is asked so many times in life. As a psychotherapist it is important for me to understand my identities as they affect the clients I work with everyday. To begin this process, we start by understanding our own identities and how they intersect with each other. These are just a few questions that might help begin the process, which will not finish today, or tomorrow, as it is a life long.

Most of the sleep that causes sleep deprivation is specifically REM (rapid eye movement) deprivation, this is when the body becomes more relaxed and the brain more active. A lot of the negative impacts of sleep loss can be reversible after just one night of peaceful sleep, but how can we get better sleep? There are so many solutions and ideas of what one person can do to improve sleep and thus anxiety. Let’s talk about holiday pressureIt seems like people fall into one of two groups when it comes to the holidays. Either this is your favorite time of year or you really wish we could do away with the holidays all together from Thanksgiving on. Maybe you don’t feel that extreme, but no matter what side of the holiday aisle you find yourself on, there is no question that this time of year comes with some pressure. ” When we experience this type of internal pressure to have it all together or nothing else matters, we set ourselves up to feel negatively. Keep reading to find out how you can reframe your all-or-nothing-thinking into something that helps alleviate the pressure.

The impacts of these losses impact many of you in different ways and we hope that some of the resources below are supportful and if we can be of more help please reach out. We understand therapists’ role as focused on relieving the suffering of people and the communities that shape and form their experiences. Being anti-racist means actively engaging in the room with clients, advocating for them and their groups of belonging, engaging our voices in the community to transform and change sociocultural myth and biases, and importantly looking at how we might perpetuate racist ideas and behaviors in our daily encounters so we stop automatic resposes and practice dimantling social norms in person-to-person relationships. Before, during, and after this most recent horrific event we have and are providing training for all our clinicians in how to identify gross and subtle forms of racism, broach identities and social locations as part of our daily practice of recognizing each other, look at how we impact and interact with our clients based on our identities, and discuss and give healing space to traumas that occur from these events. As stated, this commitment will not change and we will continue to train all clinical staff in order to best serve our community during this time, from the therapy room to the public space we can impact as counselors, as well as to continue engaging in a practice of self-reflection and challenging everyday biases, which in the long term can contribute to a cultural change.

December 21st is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year and considered to be a time of rebirth for the sun. This time of year, leading up to daylights savings, is hard for so many of us because of the shorter days, the cold, and the innate desire to hibernate vs. Cooking warm and delicious meals for my family and friends, then playing my favorite card game, Nertz, while having a fire going. I also follow “Nap Ministry” on Instagram and try to take opportunities to rest when I can. ”Picking up a favorite book to read and wrapping up in a fuzzy blanket with mfavorite cup of tea.
