The former "maester" of the Citadel engaged in vivisecting people, and he holds the power to bring back the dead or at least the moribund .Qyburn once famously brought back a poisoned and moribund Gregor Clegane, the character referred to as "The Mountain."In a published concurring opinion by the nation's largest federal appeals court, two judges from the San Francsico-based 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals wrote that the majority's opinion "comes very close to a qyburnian resurrection PDF of the Jiffy June standard."The highly nuanced case concerns police officers citing the Fair Labor Standards Act FLSA and suing the City of San Gabriel in Southern California over pay and benefits. The concurring opinion was written by Obama appointee Judge John Owens.Together, Owens and Trott have displayed a daenerysian command of language here, wouldn't you say?
Facebook Mark Zuckerberg CEOFacebook s Mark Zuckerberg is one of the most influential people in tech – remember how the crowd went nuts when he stole Samsung s Galaxy S7 show a few months ago?– but he s not going to be in charge of the most popular social network on Earth. And when he does step down from day-to-day management operations, he shouldn t be able to dictate the future of the company.DON T MISS: Amazon s 15 best daily deals: $10 Google Cardboard, Bose home theater, a free HDTV and moreAccording to Reuters, Facebook s board proposed removing Zuckerberg s majority voting control of the company in the event he should retire from managing the business. The latter give him control over 53.8% of the company, meaning that he can do pretty much what he wants with Facebook regardless of whether he s running it or not. These new terms thus ensure that we will not remain a founder-controlled company after we cease to be a founder-led company, the board said.
Hacks, data leaks and your personal information being offered for sale on the internet are hardly a rare thing, but for each major hack that takes place, there usually follows an arrest down the line. This time around, Russian authorities have reportedly arrested 50 people accused of being involved with malware that stole around 1.7 billion roubles $25 million from bank accounts, according to the BBC.The arrests don t come a moment too soon either, it seems – the gang had payments pending totalling another 2.3 billion roubles. The malware – called Lurk – was targeted at bank employees and officials using phishing emails that were customized for each victim. The arrests are some of the largest in Russia for hacking and were co-ordinated across 15 different regions in the country.Read next: 3 industries keeping SMS alive and kicking
Five guys gone, and then I danced near you and your friend for like 30 minutes, literally welling up in tears, having witnessed the most sublimely beautiful thing I may ever see.Her 8-paragraph essay nails the issues of misogyny, rape culture and consent or lack thereof that women have to grapple with on a near-daily basis, while also calling on men to embrace healing masculinity, and encouraging them to be feminist allies.Thank you for existing as well.I have chosen to confront, to bring my joy to spaces I choose, and affirm to those who surround me that I am in charge of my body, my desires, and my space. It is respecting no , loving no , honoring no .I m grateful for your message and that you recognized what was occuring that night.
Josh Homan, Sean McBride, and Rob Caldwell named the malware "Irongate" and say it is probably a proof-of-concept that is likely not used in wild.Industrial control system malware are complex beasts in large part because exploitation requires knowledge of often weird, archaic, and proprietary systems. It is this that makes Irongate interesting. The malware is also unique in that it employs man-in-the-middle attacks to capture normal traffic on human machine interfaces to replay it in a bid to mask anomalies during attacks. That replay trick is reminiscent of work by IOActive researcher Alexander Bolshev who told The Register how frequency and amplitude modifications in waves generated by control programmable logic controllers could allow attacks to be masked."Even though process operators face no increased risk from the currently identified members of the Irongate malware family, it provides valuable insight into adversary mindset."
Apple's WWDC keynote starts on Monday, June 13 at 10am Pacific that's 1pm Eastern, 6pm GMT , and it promises to be one of the more interesting ones for the Cupertino company.MacBook Pro 2016The MacBook has just been refreshed, so the MacBook Pro is next for an update - and where better to unveil a new Pro laptop range than at your annual developers' conference? It's also been rumored that Apple will base its Watch 2 processor on the ARM Cortex A32, which is 25% faster than the current ARM-based processor and offers vastly improved battery life, addressing one of the Watch's biggest issues.Apple has trademarked lots of Californian place names so it isn't short of successors to El Capitan, but code buried deep inside a file that's been in OS X's System folder since 2015 refers not to OS X, but to macOS - the name Apple used to use for its operating system. It seems to be more than a retro flashback; OS X doesn't fit with the current Apple OS convention that spans watchOS, tvOS and iOS, and Apple's latest update to its environmental page described macOS, not OS X.We're hoping that the lack of Mac Pro updates is because Apple's working on a really amazing new one, not losing interest in it altogether.
Google knows how important it is to avoid crossing the "creepy" line, so the company is baking privacy controls into its smart home appliance, Google Home, CEO Sundar Pichai said on stage at Vox Media's Code Conference on Wednesday. The voice-powered device, which works a lot like Amazon's Echo by letting users speak to it to make restaurant reservations, get the weather and play music, will have an "off the record" mode where it won't store any data about search or queries.Users will basically be able to tell Home to find information in "incognito" mode, or take past questions that they've asked the device "off the record. The real power of the virtual assistant is that it "learns" about its users by looking at their past interactions, but Pichai says that Google recognizes that people don't want all their information stored."The machine learning and AI will help us do privacy better," Pichai said."Over time we can get smarter at giving users sophisticated privacy controls.
Places from tropical islands to laundry rooms are full of detail in developer Naughty Dog s newest game. However, I m a texture artist so I m going to focus on the role textures and materials play in the pursuit of beautiful graphics. When we started developing Uncharted 4 for the PS4 we chose to build our new render engine around the principles of Physically Based Rendering PBR .This meant that we needed to find new methods for generating vast amounts of content of the kind required to feed a PBR pipeline and at the same time maintain the unique quality of the handcrafted look that we are known for.Early on in our research we connected with Allegorithmic creator of the texturing application Substance and together we began working on developing a texture/material workflow that would meet the PBR requirements as well as complement our established methods and allow us to continue to be creative and artistic.I am a believer that if you give great artists the freedom to be creative and provide them with the tools they need to do their best work you will get the best results ,and if a particular tool yields consistent great results, artists will gravitate to it naturally over time. Its versatility allowed us to tailor the workflow to meet challenges both internally and externally and the two pipelines integrate relatively seamlessly.Rogelio Olguin: The quickest way to explain would be through our aesthetics. Our games are story oriented, and because of that we add as much depth as possible when it comes to the macro and micro of our environmental storytelling that may or may not even add anything to the greater story.A simple example is like in prologue orphanage chapter with young Nathan Drake you will see a magnet alphabet with one missing letter Y .This is a tiny detail that adds nothing to the game, but it creates a sense of place and prior events.I think this is why Naughty Dog games tend to have that feeling of being better , if you were to compare to other game assets in a vacuum you would see that Naughty Dog assets are usually at least of the same level of most other games.
For a graphic tracing the money trail from Ecuador to Hong Kong, see: http://tmsnrt.rs/1WugDmpThe $12 million taken from BDA and the $81 million cyberheist from the Bangladesh central bank's accounts at the New York Federal Reserve in February have illuminated weaknesses in the global money transfer system. In the Ecuador heist, SWIFT was unaware of the January 2015 attack until Reuters contacted the cooperative last month.A Hong Kong High Court judge in the BDA case described Jiushun and three other companies as appearing to be inactive corporate vehicles controlled by Chinese citizens. Those four companies received $9 million in the Ecuador heist.Around the corner from the gaming space is a tennis-themed sports shop, which is listed as the address for the firm that performed legally required secretarial services for Jiushun Group.Of the $1.968 million that went to Jiushun, $219,794 was passed on by Jiushun to jewelry wholesaler Samdimon HK Limited, according to a Hong Kong High Court decision citing bank transfer details from HSBC.

I was particularly excited to read his new book, Sales Manager Survival Guide, which is a refreshing, highly accessible and much-needed set of best practices for sales managers of all levels and tenures.Last week I sat down with David to talk about sales management, the general lack of good sales manager content, and how other departments can help support sales managers to be more successful. To be honest, developing content, training, materials for sales people is where the money and eye balls are. There s far less content for sales managers, partly because of the numbers. So while the sales manager is involved in selling, the issues are more business management, leadership, people development, coaching, performance management.Get your copy of Sales Manager Survival Guide here!
With Sony's PS VR already in the hands of developers and set to hit living rooms in October, speculation has been building around Microsoft's plans to bring virtual reality to Xbox One owners. Now, someone on NeoGAF has spotted that the E3 website has added an Xbox One Virtual Reality category, which four developers are currently registered under: Rebellion, 3DRudder, Maximum Games, and Readily Information Company.Rebellion developed Battlezone VR for PlayStation VR, while 3D Rudder produces a feet-based virtual reality controller - so there's reason for them to be on the list.Reasons to speculateLast week, our friends at Kotaku broke news that Microsoft was planning to launch a smaller Xbox One this year, with a more powerful console, codenamed "Scorpio", aimed at 2017.Kotaku says that Microsoft is pursuing a partnership with Oculus Rift for Scorpio, while Microsoft blogger Brad Sams claims he's also heard the new console could have a virtual reality component. But considering everything mentioned above, it wouldn't be totally outlandish for Microsoft to reveal some of its virtual reality plans at this year's Xbox showcase.

If Nvidia had released the GeForce GTX 1070 starting at $380 MSRP, $450 Nvidia Founders Edition reviewed just last week it would ve been the most powerful single-GPU graphics card to ever grace the earth, edging out the awe-inspiring—and $1,000—GTX Titan X.Graphics cards from both Nvidia and AMD have been stuck on the same underlying 28nm technology for four long years, but Pascal—and forthcoming Radeon cards based on AMD s Polaris GPUs—finally break the appalling trend, leaping forward two full process generations, shrinking down to 16nm transistors and integrating 3D FinFET technology as well. For all the nitty-gritty details, check out the first page of our GTX 1080 review, but in a nutshell, Pascal GPUs represent a huge step forward in performance and power efficiency.Don t be disappointed by the lack of GDDR5X or the high-bandwith memory found in AMD s Radeon Fury cards, though: The GTX 1070 s 8GB of memory is more than enough for today s games, even at 4K resolution, and the Pascal GPU s new lossless delta color compression tricks which again, we covered in the GTX 1080 write-up makes it even more effective.Pascal GPUs support a hardware feature dubbed dynamic load balancing that lets it utilize idle resources to complete other tasks faster. Here, Nvidia s claims hold true.
A picture illustration shows Twitter's logo reflected in a person's eye, in central Bosnian town of Zenica,In an increasingly interconnected world, cybersecurity continues to be a critical issue with technology behemoths constantly adopting innovative approaches to beef up their security against malicious cyberattacks, bugs and vulnerabilties.Launched in May 2014, Twitter's programme has received 5,171 reports over two years and has paid out a total of $322,420 to researchers, the company revealed in a blog post.A total of 1,662 researchers have received 'bounties' through the programme.Although the company does offer a minimum of $15,000 to anyone who discovers remote code execution vulnerabilities, it says it hasn't received any such report yet.Twitter, however, isn't the only big tech company offering incentives to researchers to motivate individuals and groups of white hat hackers to inform them about possible flaws and vulnerabilities in their networks and digital infrastructure. The social media giant recently awarded $10,000 to a 10-year Finnish boy who discovered he could infiltrate Facebook-owned Instagram and force delete users' comments and captions - the youngest hacker to receive a cash reward from Facebook so far.

You can slice and dice the terabytes of data you gather seven ways til Sunday — but what do you actually know?In fact, he s seen data teams brought in to simply find the data needed to support a move that had already been taken.Instead, he asserts, The only eventual value of data is when it s used to make better decisions.Data is now the answer seemingly to everything — but marketers so often forget to ask the question.Time can be wasted looking at data, producing tons of useless, overburdened dashboards that don t actually change the decisions that anyone is making, Olson argues. They re still doing the same things anyway. They have to be able to answer the question, If I m not here, would the company be making the same choices and the same decisions?

McNealy gathered the data in his role as co-founder and executive chairman of Wayin, a software-as-a-service outfit that aims to give advertisers a chance of getting their promotions in front of interested eyeballs more often.Wayin's trying to change that by scouring the internet looking for freely-available data on netizens' interactions with brands.I buy golf clubs all the time because I think they will improve my game, he said.If I keep that secret, it will mean I am less aware of products I want.3D printing is very interesting, but it is just a chemistry, manufacturing and control equivalent, miniaturised and modernised. One thing he's found is Liquidsky, a startup in which he has invested that turns smartphones into thin clients capable of playing console games and which he hopes will finally bring thin clients into mainstream use.
The Olympus Stylus Tough TG-Tracker — terrible name aside — looks like it s built to have rocks thrown at it.Yet despite a solid reputation for rugged point-and-shoot cameras Olympus has never played in the action camera sandbox GoPro built before. The rugged little camera is purportedly capable of handling immersion in 30 metres of water, temperatures as cold as -10C, and the crushing weight of at least two eight-year-old boys 100 kilos .So you can make like it s 2005 and camcorder the hell out of stuff. But that extra weight pays off in the form of a fold out display for monitoring what you re shooting, and a whole slew of neat sensors, including a GPS radio, thermometer, barometer, and even a manometer depth sensor .The green above, and this more demure black and red affair.
Conversion rate optimization isn t just meant for websites with millions of visitors a month. In fact, one of the biggest myths in CRO is that you can apply methods from any amazing case study to your site, and you ll get amazing results. But the reality is that there are often case studies that prove the exact opposite. That s why we test everything.Nothing on a website should come from guesswork or because, hey… looks cool.If you don t have anything that helps you track your visitors, you should begin with adding Google Analytics.
Two weeks ago, Adobe released a major update of Flash also stopped a newly discovered bug, called zero-day. Then the bug had already been used in attacks using Microsoft Office. Now Kafeine, a security researcher with a focus on malware, discovered that a tool that uses the bug has been found in the Magnitude, a software used by hackers. This makes the risk of contracting any malware is much higher, since Magnitude makes it easy to embed malicious code in web pages so that you can be infected without doing anything other than visit an infected website. To not use Flash is the safest way to avoid this type of attack, but if for some reason you need the Flash, it is important that you always install all updates as soon as they arrive.
