Whether you've just bought a new Mac loaded with macOS 10.12 Sierra for recording music or have been laying down sick beats in your bedroom for years, the decision of whether to upgrade from Garageband to Logic Pro X can be a tough one.Garageband is free and comes with a sweet selection of software-based guitar effects, a great visual drum machine and clean, accessible interface.Logic, on the other hand, costs a cool £149.99 $200/AUS$300 and hides so much functionality under its glossy veneer that it's used by professional beatmakers, including Adele and Sia.There's a bunch of articles out there detailing the differences between the two apps, so I'll save that for another time.Instead, I'm going to take you through how I made the switch from Garageband, which I've been using to record fairly simple rock songs since 2011, to Logic.I spent roughly one month getting to grips with Logic before recording a new song over the course of five days that you can listen to here.

Of course, in reality this is comparing apples and oranges: One is a free codebase which can run on most any hardware imaginable, the other is a proprietary product with an undecouple-able GUI that, until recently, has run only on x86 PCs.Our approach will be to consider features from Windows 10 and compare them with like-for-like equivalents from various Linux distributions.Microsoft's new operating system has certainly brought forth a lot of changes, and perhaps the most notable is that Windows 10 will be the last incarnation of the OS.Individuals who purchase or are entitled to a free copy of Windows will see it supported "for the lifetime of that device".Windows Vista was received with generally little affection, mostly because of its demanding system requirements, but let's not forget good old user-inertia.Obviously it's a secret how different the underlying codebase really is, but digging around the settings you'll find the same Device Manager that has been kicking about since XP.

Samsung cannot catch a break lately, with some South Korean consumers registering complaints about the replacement units received as part of the Galaxy Note7 recall.According to the Wall Street Journal via XDA-Developers , the new devices have reportedly been overheating and losing battery power too quickly. However, despite what sound decidedly like battery-related issues, a company spokesman rejected that diagnosis, claiming that the problems were completely unrelated to batteries. He went on to stress that they were isolated cases, and attributed them to a vague, overarching problem of mass production issues. The company has plenty of incentive to downplay batteries as the culprit here: It is in the midst of an unprecedented — in terms of both cost and scale — global recall program as it endeavors to replace millions of defective Note7 handsets. The defect in question is a battery that is slightly too big for its housing, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission regulatory agency, which can short circuit and either explode or catch fire.Because of the problems identified in the newest production run in Korea, as well as lower than expected return volume of phones already in the market, Samsung is pushing back the scheduled resumption of sales by three days, from September 28 to October 1.Sales have been resuming sporadically elsewhere in the world, with some U.S. carriers already offering the device once again.

After the botched recall of the very explodey Galaxy Note 7, Samsung just cannot catch a break. On Friday, during an IndiGo flight from Chennai to Singapore, a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in the overhead compartment started spewing smoke and sparks.A statement from IndiGo reads:The crew quickly identified minor smoke coming from the hat-rack of seat 23 C. Taking the precautionary measure, the cabin crew on priority relocated all passengers on other seats, and further observed smoke being emitted from a Samsung Note 2, which was placed in the baggage of a passenger in the overhead bin. There was no fire observed but sparks were observed.A Samsung spokesperson told the Times of India that the company is aware of the incident and that the company was looking into the matter.
Things haven't been going great for Samsung, what with its latest phablet offering, the Note 7, exploding and all.The fallout hasn't quite finished yet either, with some analysts projecting the resulting global recall is likely to cost the company more than $1 billion. And while the financial loss is going to hit the company hard, one thing Samsung definitely doesn't want is any more phones exploding.Which is why it issued a software update that keeps the Note 7's battery from charging to 100%, thereby minimising the risk of the device catching fire until a replacement can be issued. The update itself forces the battery to stop charging once it hits 60%, but the guys over at SamMobile have noticed a way to increase that figure to 80%.According to the report, turning off the 'Limit maximum charge to 60%' toggle in the handset's Advanced Settings will allow the Note 7 to add an extra 20% to its maximum charge.
Would-be LTE-U carriers told to take these tests, or just leave off22 Sep 2016 at 06:27, Richard ChirgwinThe Wi-Fi Alliance's long-awaited – and controversial – LTE-U Coexistence Test plan has landed. The reg-walled test plan is supposed to help work out if LTE-U – the mobile carriers' plan to use unlicensed spectrum if nobody else is talking – can coexist with Wi-Fi.Carriers, already under a spectrum squeeze, are hoping they can pitch their tents on Wi-Fi's campground, promising that LTE-U won't disrupt Wi-Fi.Negotiations between the groups and America's Federal Communications Commission have been tense, and at one point, Qualcomm complained its input to the test plan had been ignored.
General Motors isn't letting up on Tesla, as the Chevy Bolt heads into production next month and is expected to hit dealerships before the end of the year.Last week, Chevy announced that the Bolt, an all-electric hatchback, would arrive with an EPA-estimated 238 miles of range on a charge — about 20 more than the 215 predicted for the Tesla Model 3 mass-market vehicle by CEO Elon Musk back in March. On Tuesday, Chevy kept the pressure on by revealing that the Bolt would priced at $37,495.What's important about that number is that after a $7,500 federal tax credit, the Bolt's price falls below $30,000.Yep, it could be $29,995.Come on down!In all seriousness, Chevy's North American president, Alan Batey, said in a statement: "Value is a hallmark for Chevrolet and the pricing of the Bolt EV proves we re serious about delivering the first affordable EV with plenty of range for our customers."He added: "We have kept our promise yet again, first on range and now on price."So there you have it.Tesla's Model 3 is expected to be priced at around $30,000, also after tax credits.

That could mean another short video, but in a perfect Asgard we d see Darryl move in as Thor s permanent roomie. In an interview with IGN, Waititi chatted about the hilarious mockumentary that first debuted at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year.In it, Thor shares a glimpse of his not entirely volunteer sabbatical away from The Avengers during the events of Captain America: Civil War, living in a flat in Australia with his roommate, an office worker named Darryl. He s basically Marvel s version of the Doctor Who companion, a regular working stiff who helps our otherworldly hero understand humanity s ways.Well, according to Waititi, Darryl s story might not be over just yet. While many signs would point to the mockumentary series continuing with another chapter, I think it would so much better to give Darryl a cameo in Thor: Ragnarok.
