The data collected by self-driving cars used to be a closely guarded secret. But recently, many companies developing autonomous driving systems have begun to release their data to the research community in dribs and drabs.Waymo says its dataset contains 1,000 driving segments, with each segment capturing 20 seconds of continuous driving. Those 20-second clips correspond to 200,000 frames at 10 Hz per sensor, which will allow researchers to develop their own models to track and predict the behavior of everyone using the road, from drivers to pedestrians to cyclists. The data was collected by Waymo’s fleet from four cities: San Francisco, Mountain View, Phoenix, and Kirkland, Washington. It includes images captured by each vehicle’s sensors, which includes LIDAR, cameras, and radar.
While FogCam never quite attained the level of fame enjoyed by the San Francisco cloud that it was set up to capture, it has nevertheless managed to become the longest continually running webcam in the world. But 25 years after setting up the camera on the campus of the San Francisco State University, FogCam’s creators have decided to call it a day.Jeff Schwartz and Dan Wong (aka Webdog and Danno) said it was “time to let it go” after deciding it was becoming too difficult to find new locations to set up the camera.“The university tolerates us, but they don’t really endorse us and so we have to find secure locations on our own,” Schwartz told the SF Gate.In a tweet announcing the news of FogCam’s imminent demise, the pair wrote that their webcam will be “shutting down forever” at the end of August 2019, adding, “The internet has changed a lot since 1994, but Fogcam will always have a special place in its history.”After 25 years, Fogcam is shutting down forever at the end of August.

While the United States currently has an edge in the race to develop artificial intelligence, China is rapidly gaining ground as Europe falls behind, according to a report released today by the Center for Data Innovation. The study arrives amid a wide-ranging debate about which region has gained AI leadership, and the implications that holds for dominating cutting-edge technologies such as autonomous vehicles and other forms of automation. There has been growing concern among U.S. tech companies and policymakers that China’s initiative to make it dominant in AI by 2030 is allowing it to dictate this critical field. The ability of its central government to allow sweeping data gathering and determine official champions to lead this charge seems to have given its efforts significant momentum.Of the three, the EU may face the greatest challenges because it doesn’t lead in any of the six categories measured.“AI is the next wave of innovation, and overlooking this opportunity will pose a threat to a region’s economic and national security,” said Center for Data Innovation director Daniel Castro in a statement.
Playboy has a recent history of wacky ideas, and its latest oddball announcement is the company's first Bluetooth headphones: the Playboy Audio Icon 1.You know, because the magazine interviewed Miles Davis or something. The $149 headphones promise better comfort in a lightweight design and feature the iconic bunny logo over each earcup, as well as the word Playboy on the headband.Playboy Audio says the Icon 1 has an "ultrapremium distortion-free sound combined with our powerful rich bass offers a superior, industry leading, high-fidelity listening experience".The Icon 1 also offers "better hands-free calling" (ick) using the company's "advanced microphone technology" and the ability to listen for up to 22 hours per charge. The magazine's racy history is never far away, especially when it comes to fan extras like the promised and suggestively-named "Pleasures Playlist."

It’s absolutely essential, but perhaps one of the hardest marketing disciplines to master. And during his session, titled Building a Marketing Dashboarding Discipline: It’s Not About the Tool (Until It Is), Joseph challenged marketers to flip our thinking on how we measure. They had a complicated, nuanced message to share with a skeptical audience—and less than 15 business days from when they received their KPIs from management to when the activation needed to be executed.Joseph suggested using a challenge like this as a tool.“You don’t have to change the entire system. You don’t have to change the entire system.
Facebook’s tool for building augmented reality effects, Spark AR, now allows anyone to make custom face filters and other effects for Instagram Stories. The platform was previously limited to approved creators, but today’s update will let anyone create and upload their own AR filters to Instagram.Instagram is also introducing an Effect Gallery tab on artists’ profiles, letting artists display their creations.Instagram introduced AR filters in May 2018, but the filters only exploded in popularity after more creators joined the closed beta last October. The surreal designer filters have helped boost AR creators’ followings, as effects can only be added to a user’s in-app camera once they follow the creator’s account.Once a user follows a creator, effects from that account will automatically show up in the Stories camera’s effects tray.
Today, DJI is launching the newest entry in its line of smartphone stabilization gimbals: the DJI Osmo Mobile 3.As with previous iterations in the Osmo Mobile series, you snap your smartphone into the gimbal and use Bluetooth to get crisp and stable video shots. However, the Osmo Mobile 3 has a distinct advantage over previous DJI gimbals as well as most competitor products: the DJI Osmo Mobile 3 folds up, making it incredibly portable.Sure, you can make them flat so they take up less room, but they still take up way more real estate in a backpack than most travelers would like.If you fold up the Osmo Mobile 3, the device takes up less backpack space than pretty much any other gimbal, which is terrific news.Although it’s far from pocket-sized, it could now easily fit into a shoulder bag or fanny pack.
We’ve been writing about this gizmo named Effie for nearly two years now — it’s a home device built by a British startup that’s designed to take the pain out of ironing.Just put items on hangers on Effie, which irons clothes by contracting them and pressing the creases out, simulating the steam iron process.(Ironing is a thing your mother used to do to your father’s suits before he went to work at the bank, for you younger folks who are part of the gig economy and wear shorts to work like the rest of us).A press of a single button gets the process started, and the device stops itself when the job is done. It’s not here yet, but we’ve received an update about the product’s development from the crew behind it.The device, invented by British engineers Rohan Kamdar and Trevor Kerth, is apparently now able to iron a wider variety of shirt styles, rather than just the business suit-type shirts that most people wear to work.
Chromebooks are known as cheap alternatives to laptops since they aren’t powered by any high-tech processors. You cannot install any software on them (you can download apps though), and they’re used primarily for web browsing. Most come with Word so you can create and edit documents and reports, making it the perfect computers for students, especially now that school is about to start. Then along came Google’s Pixelbook, a so-called premium laptop/tablet hybrid that runs with Chrome OS like any other Chromebooks. Its design is sublime, it boasts full Android app support, it’s surprisingly fast for a Chromebook, and the battery can last an entire day.Besides its pleasing aesthetic, the Pixelbook is only four-tenths-of-an-inch thick.
Square Enix revealed its financial results for the quarter ending on June 30, showing growth compared to the previous year thanks to its iconic Final Fantasy franchise. The publisher reported net sales of $500.97 million, up 19.1% compared to last year.During the quarter, Square Enix released Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.Even without a technical “new” release, the anticipation for Shadowbringers drove sales for Final Fantasy XIV and bringing the remasters of older Final Fantasy games to new platforms helped open them up to a larger audience. That’s the power of long-lived and long-loved franchise.Sales for the Final Fantasy franchise, which launched in 1987, now stand at over 144 million.

Another werewolf movie you might want to consider is the more-recent Ginger Snaps.Dourif’s character, serial killer Charles Lee Ray, finds himself dying from gun wounds in a toy factory. Before Ray bites the bullet, he casts a voodoo spell on a children’s doll to capture his soul, transforming the toy into a rage-fuelled psychopath.Check out 1986’s Dolls and 1975’s Trilogy of Terror. The movie begins with the gates of Hell opening its doors thanks to a selfish priest committing suicide in a church cemetery. If you haven’t watched this movie already — and honestly who hasn’t — then spoiler alert: Jason isn’t the resident butcher in the first movie.
The run game, which felt as close to balanced as ever last year, is now bordering on cheat code level efficiency — at least against the CPU.And the new Face of the Franchise career mode is a resounding dud.Even when playing on All-Madden difficulty, my Browns running back tandem of Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb averaged north of 10 yards per carry. The running game has been an uphill battle in Madden for years, so it’s incredibly surprising to see this major turn.I can run four tosses to either side of the field in a row and gain significant positive yardage on at least three of them. The addition of RPOs — run-pass options — to the playbook is a nice bonus that competitive Madden players will certainly enjoy.
The Blu-ray version of Avengers: Endgame doesn't hit stores until August 13, but the digital version of the movie -- available on services including Amazon, iTunes, Vudu and more -- arrived earlier this week.It costs $19.99 at most locations.Earlier this month, the film surpassed Avatar as the highest-grossing movie of all time, thanks in part to a theatrical re-release in recent weeks that included a post-credits scene and Stan Lee tribute.Note that CNET may get a share of revenue from the sale of merchandise featured on this page.Getting a disc or digital version with the directors' commentary and deleted scenes will shed some new light on the movie, even for hardcore Marvel fans. Also notable for the home release is that Endgame is one of the first movies to support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on the Movies Anywhere service -- at least when viewed on 4K-capable Apple TV, Fire TV, Chromecast and Android TV hardware on compatible 4K TVs.
