The function of a human artery is to carry the blood from human heart to the rest of body whereas a vein helps in carrying blood back to the heart but in the whole process of carrying blood from heart to the rest of the body and back to the heart, it is actually the valves that stop the blood from flowing backward.

This condition may lead to pain, swelling, cramps, varicose veins and leg ulcers.

“It has been found by doctors that the people having a family history of chronic venous insufficiency are more likely to be affected by this complication,” says Irfan Siddiqui, the leading cardiologist of the country.

The Prime cause of venous insufficiency is no doubt blood clotting and varicose veins.

If you are overweight then your chances of developing this condition are higher than average-weight people.

It has been found by the doctors that excessive weight of the body may hamper the functioning of the valves and hence may hamper the process of easy and smooth blood flow from the human heart to the body and back to the heart.

PAD an abbreviation for Peripheral Artery Disease refers to diseases of the arteries and veins.

“One of the visible symptoms of the disease in the diagnostic test is the narrowing of the blood vessels which results in the restriction of the blood flow to the arms, kidneys, stomach, and legs,” says Irfan Siddiqui, the experienced cardiologist.

According to the various statics of the U.S government, it is estimated that over 8.5 million people in the United States are suffering from Peripheral artery disease whereas 12-20 percent of these patients are likely to be over 60 years of age.

Quitting smoking is the first thing men should do to get rid of this disease besides developing good health habits such as regular exercising and eating more vegetables and fruits as advised by Irfan and other experienced cardiologists.

It s no doubt that non-smokers and people having healthy habits are less likely to develop PAD whereas patients suffering from PAD are more likely to get heart attacks and strokes.

According to experts around half of the patients don’t know they are suffering from it because some of them might show no symptoms at all or they might not be able to recognize the symptoms but with little awareness, they can come to know about it beforehand.
