Now that dating digitally has become so common, companies are constantly collecting information about our human matingIt turns out it's seasonal. For example, there's a big spike of activity on the first Sunday of every year — after people have gotten over their New Year's hangover and have had some time to collect"It's like a magical jump that continues through Valentine's Day,
It s hard to find a more anticlimactic deal in the history of technology than the $4.8 billion Verizon acquisition of Yahoo announced today. In taking this step, Verizon plans to effectively merge Yahoo with AOL, something every single human being on the planet has suggested the two companies do for well over a decade, and maybe even longer. At long last, we will finally see if Verizon can take two wrongs and make a right.Rose-colored press releases aside, the deal already feels a bit tired.Way back in 2006, when there were widespread reports that Yahoo might try to buy AOL, the concern was that Google had bought some video startup called YouTube and that Yahoo needed to respond.Later, there was competition with insurgents Facebook and Twitter. And of them mobile.Amid a carousel of CEOs, the ultimate answer was always deemed to be the same: Yahoo and AOL should merge! This remained the conventional wisdom even after Verizon bought AOL last year for $4.4 billion and persisted even after AOL CEO Tim Armstrong last year declared such a deal a dead notion. We have enormous respect for what Yahoo has accomplished: This transaction is about unleashing Yahoo s full potential, building upon our collective synergies, and strengthening and accelerating that growth, Armstrong said today in a press release.Combining Verizon, AOL and Yahoo will create a new powerful competitive rival in mobile media, and an open, scaled alternative offering for advertisers and publishers.
With a lighter, thinner chassis, the Moto Z reviewed here certainly pairs better with Motorola s snap-on Moto Mods. But because the higher-spec ed Moto Z Force is so dang good, it can stand all on its own, with no speaker, projector or power pack accessories necessary. In fact, the Moto Z Force $720 via Verizon is the better choice for people who have no interest in Motorola s modular smartphone concept, and if I had to name Motorola s marquee device for 2016, I d put the Z Force in front. This smartphone must be considered an option for anyone who just won t consider the Samsung Galaxy S7.If you re hoping to pair the Z Force with one of its Moto Mods like this Kate Spade-themed battery pack , be forewarned that the total package gets quite heavy.I never thought my arm could ever get tired from simply talking on the phone, but that happened with the Z Force when I attached the Kate Spade Power Pack.
At the age of seven, my neighbors invited my family over to their house to see the original Xbox for the first time. The chance to blow up my friends with grenades and save the universe from an alien invasion was, at the time, mind-blowing, and Halo s popularity coincided with my own transition from child to young man.Knowing full well that I was going to pay way more than the statue was worth, I tracked one down, and it certainly cut into my budget for buying actual, playable video games.Ubisoft s many franchises were also given the PVC treatment, with figurines of Sam Fisher and Edward Kenway among my very best pieces.I m far from alone in my love of video game memorabilia.I loved the Nintendo characters and tried to find something that I could play with when I didn t have control of the TV.

Use soft clipping instead of setting limits when you masters, the result is often softer and more transparent. A combination of both is also not stupid if you want to push up the volume. A dynamic EQ works only when it needs, often resulting in a more balanced and natural sound. Parallel Compression combined with a transient designer at trumreverbet creates hustle and bustle of the drums. Mute button is your best friend on the mix sounds mushy and messy. Bribe one channel at a time, listening.

What makes Apple s ResearchKit more attractive than your typical research institution-funded study is the standardization of data collection, as well as the ability to have participants enroll on their own and participate in studies from the comfort of their homes, drastically minimizing costs across the board.Interestingly enough, however, GlaxoSmithKline is the first pharmaceutical company to conduct a study through ResearchKit, reports Bloomberg.Over a three-month period, Glaxo aims to involve 300 participants in a rheumatoid arthritis study that aims to include participants physical and emotional symptoms, such as pain levels and mood.More standardized data, such as the utilization of the iPhone s sensors in order to record motion through a guided wrist exercise, will also be included. The hope for the arthritis study, according to Glaxo head of clinical innovation and digital platforms group Rob DiCicco, is to inform any future clinical trials the drugmaker might want to conduct. However, there are potential shortcomings with using ResearchKit to conduct studies, something DiCicco partially acknowledged when he said, One thing we ll learn is whether we made it compelling enough to make you want to interact with it every day.
Dennis Dayman: At first I wasn t sure what their plans were outside of an existing partnership. The more I thought about it, the more I began to realize Microsoft, like Google and other enterprises, really lacks a real social media presence or product. So then what are the competitive advantages for these two behemoths joining forces?DD: I m less interested and concerned about the direct cloud-to-cloud comparison of Azure versus Google. If you look at what the popular email client CloudMagic has done with their Sender Profile feature that provides users a button labelled Know More after receiving or sending an email, you can see the sender s organization, location, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter profiles of that based purely on their email address. And IBM announced Verse, which was a kind of inbox manager, as well, but it seems to have morphed into a quasi-business/social collaboration tool.

Since its publication near the turn of the 20th century, H.G.Wells s War of the Worlds has seen lots of adaptations. One that didn t happen, however, and we really wish had, was by legendary film-maker and stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen. Now we can finally see what Harryhausen had in mind. The footage has been online for a while but is just now coming to our attention.According to Blastr, it was originally brought to studios in 1949 as a pitch to let Harryhausen adapt the novel.

Google has acquired the team behind Kifi, an app for saving, sharing, and chatting about content from many websites. The app will be going away in the coming weeks. The employees are joining the Google Spaces team, Kifi said today in a Medium post.Although the Kifi service and data will not become part of Google, you ll be able to use Kifi for the next few weeks, after which you ll still be able to easily export your data for a few weeks, the team wrote.Kifi, whose collections can be publicly visible, does overlap with Spaces to a degree, which is why it s interesting to see Google snap it up so soon after the launch of the app.Kifi was one of the companies that had support for the Sign in to Slack feature at the time that team communications app Slack launched it earlier this year. Its app is available on Android, iOS, and the web, and Firefox and Chrome extensions are also available.Kifi, from FortyTwo Inc., started in 2012 and was based in Mountain View, California.Investors include Wicklow Capital, SGVC, Gary Ginsberg, Mohan Gyani, Donald Katz, Liron Petrushka, Richard Sarnoff, and Oren Zeev.

It's not just YouTube though, streaming service Twitch is also growing in popularity, allowing anyone to easily broadcast their gaming experience from a PC, PS4 or Xbox One.In this article I look at why people watch others playing games, and highlight four of my favorite YouTube gamers, ranging from views to work ethic.YouTube gamers have managed to captivate audiences in a variety of ways. This gives you insight into whether to purchase particular games and how to approach games when you load them up, as well as keeping you informed about upcoming titles or developments surrounding the community.A small portion of YouTubers are just incredibly good at games, and people want to watch them in order to improve their own skills.Whether that's finding a way to beat that boss you've been stuck on for ages, wiping an extra second off your build order to push you up the rankings, learning a different way to complete a game or finding hidden Easter eggs, there's an awful lot to be gleaned from the pros.
While the creative team — and the man currently playing Hikaru Sulu, John Cho — of Star Trek Beyond may have decided that including a scene of Sulu with his same sex partner wasn t a big deal, George Takei had a different response. The actor who originated the role told the Hollywood Reporter, I m delighted that there s a gay character.Unfortunately, it s a twisting of Gene s creation, to which he put in so much thought.Cho called Takei to tell him about the move, and Takei tried to explain his misgivings. While Takei s timeline doesn t work out — Beyond is in an alternate universe and a prequel — his point may be that Sulu s existed in the public consciousness so long that having him come out in this chronologically late movie seems like he was closeted before.Takei also told the Hollywood Reporter that he said a similar thing to director Justin Lin, arguing that the best way to honour the 50th anniversary year of Star Trek was to create a brand new character, rather than changing an existing one.
