Specification of laboratory Desiccator Cabinets

A desiccator is an enclosed device that can be sealed and has desiccants to protect the compounds within from moisture. A laboratory vacuum desiccator cabinet has a desiccant or a substance that absorbs moisture, filling the space below the storage platform. A stopcock is included to allow the desiccator to be evacuated. A desiccator can be used for various purposes such as cooling heated substances in the desiccator to disallow moisture from gathering. The interior is dry because of the desiccating compound at the bottom. Chemicals that absorb moisture easily are stored in a desiccator, so their life is long. It is used for vacuum testing and degassing as well as defoaming.

Specifications of laboratory desiccator cabinets

Following are the specifications of a few types of desiccator cabinets:

Nitrogen Storage Cabinet

This is the desiccator in which an inert gas – nitrogen is used to keep the environment dry and where oxidization is not desired. As nitrogen doesn’t react with substances it can be used to purify spaces. A plenum chamber manages the nitrogen flow.

  • They are made of amber/clear acrylic, Non-Dissipative PVC or Static-Dissipative PVC.
  • 304 stainless steel door frame improves sealing.
  • Lift-and-turn Compression Latch.
  • Stainless steel door hinge for strength.
  • One-piece door sealing.
  • Grounded rack, hinge and door latch provide additional ESD safety.
  • Digital Humidity monitor to display and set the humidity level.
  • Dual Scale gauge for regulation of input pressure.
  • 5 – 60 PSI Pressure Regulator to control high levels of purge flow.
  • 2-20 SCFH Flowmeter maintains flow.

Vacuum Desiccators

  • Constructed with 1-inch thick and clear acrylic material
  • Removable cover (removable lid) to easily insert or take out samples
  • The front hinged door can be opened to add or remove substances
  • Vacuum gasket on the door for a tight seal
  • Perforated acrylic shelves for holding substances
  • Two vacuum valves on the top allow the desiccator to be purged with nitrogen before vacuum is applied
  • Stainless steel latches for a tight closure

Wafer Storage Desiccator

  • This type of cabinet is made specially for storing silicon wafer carriers in a particulate-free, nitrogen environment.
  • This is for an optimum storing density of 200-300mm wafers. They are available with or without gas ports and back plenum.
  • The storage capacity ranges from 8 inches to 40 inches.

Portable Desiccator

  • DigitalThermometer / Hygrometer temperatures range from 14-degree Fahrenheit to 140-degree Fahrenheit while humidity ranges between 10% to 99% RH.
  • Gas-in Port & pressure relief valve.
  • Re-generable Silica Gel desiccant Cartridge with 45.5 gms of silica gel. Gel changes color from blue to pink when regeneration is needed.
  • Automatic nitrogen-purge control unit.
  • Static / Acrylic Dissipative PVC perforated shelves.
  • Flowmeter, with a range of 2-20 SCFH air.
