What causes kidney failure?

Kidney failure is the condition in which kidneys stop working sometimes suddenly or gradually. The condition arises when the kidneys become completely incapable of carrying out their tasks successfully.

Kidneys & their important functions

Kidneys are the significant body organs that are known to perform a large number of functions that are required for keeping our body healthy. This pair of organs manage the fluid level in the body, filters blood, produces necessary hormones for the body that control the production of red blood cells and managing bones’ health. In the condition of kidney failure, the kidneys completely lose their functionality completely and become incapable of executing these mentioned tasks. Kidney failure treatment in Ayurveda has shown many times that it has the potential to cure kidney failure as well.

Now, the question arises that what are the causes of kidney failure? So, here they are:

Diabetes: It is the most common cause of kidney failure but the condition takes place when you have uncontrolled diabetes for a long time. As most of us aware that in diabetes, the level of blood sugar goes high that creates a problem for the kidneys in filtering blood. When the condition persists for longer, it can lead to kidney failure.

Hypertension (high blood pressure): Hypertension is the second common cause of kidney failure after diabetes. In high blood pressure, the blood veins get extra pressure on them and become damaged when this pressure exceeds a certain level. Blood vessels in the kidneys also become damaged due to this health condition which can further lead to kidney failure.

Injury- Direct injury by sharp stuff or accident may also cause kidney damage that is a major risk factor for kidney failure.

Obstruction in urine flow: Any obstruction in the urine flow or urinary tract due to the accumulation of waste products or any kind of infection may also take the form of kidney failure if the condition doesn’t get the proper treatment.

An underlying kidney disease: A severe kidney disease such as PKD, Chronic kidney disease, Acute kidney injury, and kidney stone can also lead to kidney failure.

Some medications: Certain over-the-counter medications especially pain killers can cause kidney failure if taken for a long time without any prescription.

These are the most common causes that are found to be responsible for kidney failure. And in most of the cases of kidney failure, these factors exist. But before going for the treatment option, you should take a look at the ways that are helpful in the diagnosis of kidney failure.

Diagnosis of kidney failure

In order to diagnose the condition kidney failure, the tests that are needed to conduct are described below:

Blood Test: This test is carried out in order to detect the level of creatinine, albumin and other substances in the blood. The test determines whether the kidneys are performing their blood filtration test efficiently or not.

Urine Test: Urine test is recommended by a doctor to detect the protein loss or blood through the urine. As in the condition of kidney failure, the kidneys become totally incapable of carrying out their task and protein loss or blood urine is generally seen in the condition.

Kidney Scans: Scan tests like MRI, CT Scan and Ultrasound are conducted to identify any kind of changes in the size of the kidneys. These tests provide images of the kidneys that help a doctor in determining the change in the size and shape of the kidneys.

Biopsy: This test is suggested so that to check if there is any problem in the kidneys. In this test, tiny kidney tissue is cut down from the kidneys and is examined under a microscope.

With the help of these tests when a patient gets to know that he is suffering from kidney failure then he should not panic and tries to find adequate treatment.
