Is Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake good for first-time trekkers?

Nepal as a destination has a special significance for trekkers around the world. For most of the people, it is the place where they have experienced their first trek, have had a close encounter with snow-capped mountains, met people of different cultures and enjoyed the distinct flora and fauna, they had never witnessed earlier. No wonder, the country brings about a feeling of nostalgia for most of the trekkers.

Among a list of popular treks in the country is the Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake. People who have taken the trek successfully describe their experience as divine, especially as they get to visit the highest lake in the world that has pristine blue water—the Tilicho Lake. But more often than not, the novice trekkers are apprehensive about taking this trek since they have a number of queries in their mind.

But the bare truth is that the Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake can be taken by any trekker, novice or experienced. It would not be wrong to say that Annapurna Trek can also be done all alone, without the guidance of a porter or a guide. But it is very important to have the correct acclimatization during the trail.

But wait…

Before you start to pack your bags in jubilation, here are a few tips to keep in mind and stay safe:

  • You can certainly complete the trek successfully even if you are a first-time trekker but you need to keep in mind that the first few days can be a little testing for you. This is especially so because trek requires walking on rough mountain terrains for long hours and carrying your own backpack as well (that is if you choose not to hire a porter!), which most of us are not used to. So give yourself some time until you get used to the walking and start enjoying your trek.

  • Even if you are a new trekker, there is every possibility that you will not be bothered by mountain sickness at all but for that you need to do the right acclimatization. So read a lot and make yourself aware of the subject before you hit the trail.

  • Expect to get tired, sweat a lot and get blisters from walking too much. If you are lucky with your comfortable shoes, you might miss on the blister part but sweating and getting tired is mandatory when you are on the Annapurna Trek.

  • Make deliberate efforts on being emotionally strong more than being physically fit and that remains true for any trek, not just the Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake. It is certainly important to be physically fit to face all the challenges that are posed by the trek but one has to be emotionally strong and feel constantly motivated to keep moving forward which is a key factor when undertaking any trek.

  • Last but not least, start on a positive note and be enthusiastic about what you are going to experience. Remember Annapurna Trek is not only about rough terrains, long walking hours or scalding sun; it is also about the breathtaking panorama, a learning experience about never seen before flora-fauna and different cultures, lifestyles and so much more.

The Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake is quite well developed and a tourist-friendly trail where you will easily find several options of accommodation and food, villages and guest houses every few kilometers and several tourists as well. It is a safe and enjoyable trek that can be taken by anyone willing to accomplish it!
