What is a Low Maintenance Garden and How to Have One?

Housing pricing in Perth, while being lower than a few years ago, is still high compared to other cities worldwide.

Prices are in fact so high that land that used to have a house and a garden are now subdivided to build apartment complexes or several houses as new land is getting scarce around the city.

If you want to buy and build around the city, chances are the designs you will be offered will have little to no garden at all. Instead, you will be offered a patio surrounded by exposed aggregate or concrete and fences.

Besides the price of land, there is also a notion that keeping up a garden well maintained is a waste of time when you have children and adults have full-time jobs.

There are however ways to design a low maintenance garden so you can keep some greenery and wildlife around your house.
While it makes sense to replace your lawn with decorative concrete or artificial turf so you do not have to maw it or have to water it to keep it green, keep trees that require little care and will cope fine with the Australian weather. Native flowers and trees such as banksias, spear grads and correa alba will do naturally well. If you have no soil that you can use, less traditional options such as potters, hanging plants and vertical gardens.
Have a look at waterwise gardens and what it entails, Some plumbers in Perth work hard to receive the Waterwise accreditation so they can advise you on amenities and irrigation systems that will allow you to save water and money at the same time.
