Foot Corn Treatments in Delhi

Corns are round areas of thickened skin on one’s toes that develop due to repeated pressure on the skin. They are caused by rubbing of one’s toes against the interior of the shoe. Generally calluses form on the bottom of the feet, while corns form on top or between the toes. In many cases, foot corns and calluses go away gradually once the friction stops. If a corn or callus persists or becomes painful despite one’s self-care efforts, medical treatments are used to provide relief.

Shoes that are too tight or too worn can cause corns from the constant rubbing and pressure of one’s skin against the leather or other material inside a closed shoe. Foot corns and calluses are the body’s way of preventing blisters. Corns can also be caused where an enlarged toe joint or bunion pushes the big toe into the smaller toes. These are not always painful at first, but can cause trouble over time.

Treatment for foot corns and calluses usually involves avoiding the repetitive actions that caused them to develop. One can help resolve them by wearing properly fitting shoes, using protective pads and taking other self-care measures. Here are some of the most effective treatments for foot corns:

  • Trimming away excess skin:It involves a simple procedure of paring down the thickened skin or trimming a large corn with a scalpel. However, this foot corn treatment shouldn’t be carried out without supervision as it could lead to an infection.
  • Surgery: Surgery is recommended in rare cases, where the alignment of a bone causing friction needs to be corrected.
  • Shoe inserts:Doctors prescribe custom-made padded shoe inserts (orthotics) to prevent the reoccurring of corns. This foot corn treatment is especially helpful if one has an underlying foot deformity.
  • Callus/corn-removing medication:Applying a patch containing 40 percent salicylic acid (Clear Away, MediPlast, others) is one of the most commonly used treatment for foot corn. It is recommended to use a pumice stone, nail file or emery board to smooth away the dead skin before applying a patch.
  • Over-the-counter options: Over-the-counter options are considered very effective in the treatment of foot corns. Application of corn pads containing salicylic acid help get rid of corns in a span as short as two weeks, making this treatment a preferred choice of many people.

Corns usually show up on the smooth, thin portions of the foot’s skin and can cause a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort. Most of them gradually disappear on their own, when the friction or pressure on the foot is reduced. Hence, it’s very important to take good care of one’s feet in order to prevent the formation of corns and calluses in the first place!
