How to take care of elderly parents?

In this busy society, taking time off to take good care of and to spend quality time with elderly parents is quite difficult. There are around 40 million Americans that are taking care of their aging family members. According to research, these people are facing difficulties ranging from managing time, finance and taking the right care of those late-life elders.

Well, if you are blessed to have your elderly parents or any late-life elder, you’re blessed!

We can not return them what they did for us and of course, we can never go through the same pains and stress that they experience raising us...but still, all that we can do for them, we should do!

In this blog, I have rounded up some easy and helpful ways how you can make them feel loved and feel like having someone beside them.

1. Make changes in the house

This age, you have to take care of every move they make...make every possible corner of the house safe for them, following are some safety-changes you can do to your home:

  • Fix grab bars in the toilet and shower
  • Get anti-scald devices for their bathrooms.
  • Remove all unnecessary loose wires and cables from the floor.
  • Get non-skid mats for the bathroom, kitchen and slippery paths in the house.
  • Rearrange their room by putting all their things handy.

2. Stay in touch when you’re away

Times when you’re leaving your parents home alone, if they can interact and use a phone, keep track of their activities by calling them up from time to time. A call every few hours would put you at rest!

Moreover, you can set up a CCTV or an activity tracking app on your phone to keep an eye on their activities.

3. Hire a caregiver

Times when your out and far away from them, or just when you can’t squeeze out a jiff to look after them, seek for a caregiver! There are organizations where you can hire caregivers for as many hours you want, but you have to make sure that you check reviews online before you hire them. But one thing to make sure that you would never let the presence of a caregiver take your place in the lives of your aging parents.

4. Take care of their immunity, health, and stomach

Older adults tend to have a weaker immune system means they have so fragile defense against foreign or dangerous invaders. Also, as they age, digestive disorders also crop up. They may experience things like Heartburn, Peptic ulcers, Diarrhea, Constipation, Hemorrhoids, Gas, Stomach pain and sundries.

Well, these things are part of aging however, you shouldn’t brush them off totally considering them as an obvious aging factor! There are the following steps you can take to help them boost their immune system and to maintain their digestive health.

  • Let them have a healthy and fiber-rich diet
  • Engage them in regular physical activity
  • Engage them in stress-relieving exercises and activities.
  • Restrict them from smoking or drinking...if they’re addicted, try to limit them.
  • Let them stay hydrated and get plenty of good sleep.
  • Buy them science-backed immune-boosting digestive medicines from Quantum Wellness Botanical Institute (use Quantum Wellness coupon codes for instant discounts) to keep them fit.

5. Keep them physically active

Regular physical activity can help your old buddy reduce their risk of chronic disease, manage illnesses they already have, function better physically and mentally, avoid injuries such as falls, and live longer independently. So, if your folk is not engaged in any fitness activity, he/she is at high risk of major mobility disability and a bunch of diseases.

The following are some suggestions that you can do to motivate/engage your parent(s) to exercise.

  • Be their gym buddy..take them to your gym or even if you don’t have a gym membership, take them to a recreational park and let them be with people of their age.
  • Identify the activities that they enjoy. Older adults are more likely to perform exercises they deem pleasurable. By selecting an activity that they like to do the chances are greater that they will continue doing it.
  • Be supportive, elderly people love little encouragements and admirations.
  • If they are sporty, encourage them to join a sports club nearby.

If your old buddy is sick and totally needs someone to take care of them all the time, a Siymplymedical.com can help you find a lot of things that can help you reduce efforts and care.
