Effective Time Management Skills

 Does everyone feel stressed out when there is too much of the workload? Slowly-slowly as time passes by, do you feel like you have more tasks on hand than you have time to do them or you could have effectively used your time to complete all the given tasks?  

 The tip is to organize your tasks and use your time as effectively as possible to complete more things each day. This will help you to lower stress levels and excel at the workplace.  

  

Managing time is a skill that takes time to develop and differ from person to person. You just need to find which strategy works best for you. 

  1. Delegate Tasks

    It is common for all of us that we take more tasks than our desired potential. This eventually results in stress and burnout.  

To delegate effectively, it has to be done with deliberate intention. So the main aim of delegation is to create more quality time for yourself. There are 3 types of tasks that exist and you should generally delegate, often called the Delegation Triangle. 

The first are tasks you don’t enjoy doing. These are things that you know how to do, but don’t enjoy. Second, are tasks you shouldn’t do. These are things you know how to do and may even enjoy, but may not be the best use of your time. Third, are tasks you can’t do. These are the things that have to be done, but you don’t have the right skill or expertise to follow through with them at this moment. 
 
So, delegate your tasks effectively do try to put those tasks on priority which will give results in the short term so that you will be motivated enough to pick long term tasks and proceed towards it. 

2. Prioritize Work 

You should make a list of tasks that need your attention, Before the start of the day as other unimportant tasks can consume much of your productive and precious time. All urgent tasks need to be completed on the same day only while other unimportant tasks can be carried forward to the next day.  
In short, You should Prioritize your important tasks to focus on those that are more important. 

3. Scheduled Tasks 

You should schedule tasks so that you don’t miss any important task. You can carry a notebook or planner with you where you can list all the tasks that come to your mind or you were planning to perform on that day. Here, you can prioritize the tasks and focus on the essentials. You also have to make sure that these tasks are attainable too. One tip you can use is, you can make 3 lists: work, home and personal and can function accordingly to better manage your time management skills. 

4. Set up Deadlines 

You should always put some deadlines for your tasks and always try to set a realistic deadline and stick to it no matter what. Always try to set a deadline a few days before so that you can complete all those tasks which may get in the way and can create problem to your deadline to your specific task. You can also challenge yourself to meet the deadline; reward yourself for meeting a difficult challenge to push you further for more such tasks.

You can Set small deadlines of 60-90 minutes to work on a specific task in the starting phase. This will help you to cut procrastinating and will force you to use your time as wisely as possible. 

5. Overcome Procrastination 

Productivity is one of the things that is badly affected by Procrastination. It can eventually result in wasting your essential time and energy. Procrastination could be a major problem in both your personal life and career. You have to avoid procrastination at all costs.   

The human brain isn’t designed to work continuously on the same task for a very long duration and this could also be a reason for procrastination. So, you have to make sure that you take regular, structured breaks from the tasks. This will help you to refresh and make you ready to be more productive.
