This shows the underwhelming state of public healthcare and access to treatment for the needy and vulnerable sections of the population in the midst of a raging pandemic.
India's healthcare system was already underfundded and insufficient before COVID. The pandemic has stretched its resources and put it under even more strain.
The ability of citizens to afford basic healthcare is pivotal in the fight against this pandemic. There is no substitute for affordable healthcare, seeing as it determines the rate of recovery from the illness at an individual level.
