These are the best MacBooks you can buy

These are the best MacBooks UK you can buy

If you are a faithful Apple lover and you are thinking of buying a new laptop, without a doubt, you have to have a MacBook. The big question is, do you know which one to choose? To help you make a decision, we show you a list of the best MacBooks on the market.

After months of speculation, Apple released the MacBook Pro 16 in November 2019, phasing out the 15-inch model. But with the available MacBook Pro 13 and a completely redesigned MacBook Air, it's harder than ever to know which are the best MacBooks you can buy. As the laptop market is facing stiff competition, this guide should help you choose in the Apple environment.

And if you're interested in other laptops, here's a guide to the best laptops available.

Choices
Here are the three MacBook models available today, all of which come in different screen sizes.

MacBook Air 13 inch
13-inch MacBook Pro (with Touch Bar)
MacBook Pro 16 (with Touch Bar)

This is a fairly minimalist selection, when compared to more prolific brands such as Dell or HP.

MacBook Air

Wondering about the 12-inch MacBook ? Apple phased it out in 2019. While it was portable, Apple seems to have felt it was too similar to the redesign of the MacBook Air, which now takes its place as Apple's most portable computer.

Apple updated the 2018 MacBook Air lineup with a new 13-inch Retina model, which we now consider a strong candidate for a first-time Mac buyer. At 2.8 pounds and 0.16–0.63 inches thick, the latest MacBook Air features a familiar slim and light design, equipped with new gold and silver colors. It also comes with the scissor keyboard, Thunderbolt 3 ports, and a larger trackpad than the MacBook Pro 13.

Apple even cut the thick, silver edges off the new MacBook Air for a new edge-to-edge Retina display, which makes it a bit more modern. It is still not as thin or light as the 12-inch MacBook, but it is a bit slimmer than the MacBook Pro. The Retina display also maintains the same resolution as the MacBook Pro, at 2,560 x 1,600, although in our tests it only reaches 291 nits. It may not be that bright, but it still reproduces really accurate colors, making it a good choice for photographers and graphic designers.

Inside, the 2020 MacBook Air received a slight update from 2018. This includes an 8th-generation dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Core i5 Y-series Y-series processor, and Turbo Boost goes up to 3.6GHz. While this is not “super fast” nor is it quad-core, it does have the adequate processing power, especially for an entry-level Mac. When we tested it, the MacBook Air was good enough for watching videos, working in Photoshop, word processing, and browsing the web, and it even had better battery life than any other MacBook. However, we couldn't force it too hard, and we noticed a certain slowdown when we had many tabs open at the same time while performing tasks with multiple multimedia applications.

The 2020 update also brings in double the entry-level storage at 256GB compared to the original 128GB. It also adjusted its prices. The entry-level model costs $ 999 (or $ 899 for students), down from $ 1,099 in 2019 and $ 1,199 in 2018. This model also ditches Apple's “butterfly” keyboard, opting for the more traditional design based on scissors. After several generations, Apple simply couldn't solve these problems.
