While Google is working hard on its Assistant, it has still not reached closed to perfection. Its voice recognition feature usually takes time to pick up what you say and often misses out on half your statements. And those unnecessary Google results related to the words you spoke adds up to the unsatisfactory experience.  Whatever be the case, if you still like to interact with Google Assistance, then here is how to activate its “OK Google” voice-control feature, plus how to enable or disable the assistance completely.

Activate “OK Google” Voice Recognition

Step 1: On your Android, open the Settings menu.

Step 2: Scroll down to find a section labeled “Google.” Tap on it to find all the features offered by Google for customization.

Step 3: From the list of options, find and tap on “Account Services.”

Step 4: Then select the “Search, Assistant & Voice” option followed by “Voice.”

Step 5: Under the “Hey Google” section,  tap on “Voice Match.”

Step 6: Toggle the slider named “Hey Google” to On position or the “While Driving” to manage Google Maps when you are driving.

Step 7: Once you turn on the toggle switch for “OK Google,” you will be directed by Google to set up your voice profile. You will be made to say “OK Google” 3-4 times until Google can understand and save your voice. This will make sure that Google responds only to your commands. This is all the more important if your family members also “OK Google” as voice recognition.

How to Turn On/Off the Google Assistant

The above process educated you on activating voice recognition for the command, “OK Google.” In case you wish to turn on/off the Google Assistant completely, then here is how:

Step 1: Open Settings and scroll down to tap on the Google section.

Step 2: Then select “Account Services,” followed by “Search, Assistant & Voice.”

These steps were almost the same as you did to activate the “OK Google” voice control.

Step 3: Now, select “Google Assistant” from the list of options that comes up. This will bring up your Google Profile.

Step 4: Swipe left to view a list of options and choose “Assistant” from the profile. The next page will have the details related to your profile, and Google’s AI will use this information while interacting with you.

Step 5:  Scroll down this list until you come across the Assistant Devices section.

Step 6: Here, find and tap on the Phone options.

Step 7: Now, you will be directed to a page having Google Assistant as its first option. You can turn off or switch next to Google Assistant to enable or disable the Google Assistant.

Programs like Google Assistant are highly useful, especially when you can’t use your hands to operate your device. But these flexible usage features can sometimes risk your privacy. The Google Assistant is still not efficient enough compared to its competitors like Apple’s Siri.
