There are a lot of great reasons to take up lap swimming. In terms of developing lung strength and volume, getting a full body workout, and even developing bone density and muscle size, lap swimming is almost impossible to beat.

But possibly my favorite health benefit of lap swimming comes from the quiet time that is spent in the water. With no smartphone, no social media feeds, no endless news cycles, no one calling or emailing, I can finally get some peace and quiet in the water. 

When it is just you, the black line, and the subtle rush of water going by your ears, you can finally achieve some sort of mental quiet that is almost impossible to find in every day life.

United States Masters Swimming (Find a Club). The largest masters swimming organization in the world, USMS has clubs in almost every city. Whether you want to compete or not, and no matter what level you are at, USMS has a club, coach, and team that suits your abilities and goals in the water.
